Had a situation earlier in the year that an umpire made a spectator stop filming. He stated some policy of the high school athletic association prohibiting video without permission or team affiliation. The individual filming complied without arguement and put his camera in the case.

    Anyone run into this before?
    Just curious.....

    ????

Not sure how they can do that UNLESS the camera person was heckling or making "comments" about the calls. I usually film every game and watch it with the DD to go over possible corrections as well as give praise for great plays.

It's allowed if you're affiliated with either team, or have DD playing. I guess it's to prevent scouting by a team that's not involved in that game?

    No....

....maybe the ump didn't like the angle of the camera. "UMPS GOTTA BIG BUTT"! .....call the game pal, ya'll make too many calls on the field worth worrying about more important than dealing with the folks in the stands. ....Score....Fans 1 Idiot behind the plate 0.

I suppose I need to leave my cameras at home from now on. I certainly do not want to break any rules. I'm not involved with any team, and don't have a DD playing. Just a softball fan. I never heard that before.

No, use it, seldom will anybody say anything. It was one of the Coaches who brought to the ump's attention. They thought it was being used to pick off signs or something. Trouble is, that pitcher could tell you what's coming, and you would still have trouble hitting it!

    Spy gate?

Do the umps really think spy gate is making it's way into HS softball?
