Fuquay Varina High School is 18-0. They are one of the all around best HS teams I have ever seen. They possess good hitters all the way down the lineup and as good an infield denfense that you will ever see. Can they go undefeated? I don't know, state-wide, but in the Tri-8 the only team that might them is Apex.

They Stink - just kidding !!!

OK - I'm sure most of the readers here (Western NC) are tired about all this Fuquay Varina talk, and I usually stay away from opinions, but I'll give my 2 cents.

FV plays their best 9 (importantly pitching) against anyone else in Tri-8, they should win everytime. But you don't always get that luxury - witness Tri-8's Panther Creek's only victory this year, against Impact's North Carolina's (4A) #4 ranked Durham Riverside (5-3). So given the correct matchups, any team can be beaten. I predict that they will lose one game in the Tri-8 this year (flip a coin as to who that will be).

Apex and Athens Drive are the only Tri-8 teams which can matchup hitting wise with FV. Apex can't matchup with FV's top pitchers and Athens has even less in that category. Lee County with Zach Furl pitching can beat anyone, but that's their only chance against FV. Anyone else would need a sub par performance from FV combined with their own great performance to win.

But my main purpose for responding, is to let everyone know the personality of this FV team. My son plays for Tri-8 rival Green Hope, and he made the comment last year, and repeated it this year, what a great bunch of kids are on this FV team. They play loose, talk to their opponents, not taunt them like some other teams in the conference, and are humble despite their great play. He plays alot of first base, so gets to chat alot with the FV base runners, and enjoys playing against them, not only for the competition, but their great attitude for the game. So regardless if they go undefeated, or win the state championship, they are winners in how they go about playing the game. (Now their fans are a different story - just kidding again, Connie !!!)

Here's to hoping they get to face Furl at least one time. With the year he's having, he'll be tough to beat.

everyone knows fuquay has a great team. all this talk about "how good they are" is just making the target on their back even bigger and i doubt the players at fuquay want that to happen. they still have to go round 2 with apex, athens, and green hope and be careful that you do no add fuel to their fire.

:xyxthumbs:...one reason that coaches forbid their players from posting on message boards. I wish that wasn't the case, but it is a fact

They did face Furl in the first FV win over Lee.
He and Kevin Brandt got locked up in a great pitchers' duel. Furl is a good pitcher and should move on to the next level.

Are you really naive enough to think any of those teams will play any harder because of a couple of posts? When I played ball we always played as hard as we could regardless of the competitions record.

im done arguing with you. thats not what im here for. we disagree and there is nothing wrong with that, but it would be pointless to go back and forth.

the furl vs. brandt matchup earlier in the year was a really good pitching show. great game to watch. i believe both went 7 giving up 1 run each.
