Riverside-Person game on radio

    The Riverside and Person softball game Friday night (4-25-08)at Riverside 7:00 will be broadcast over WKRX 96.7 (Local radio station in Roxboro). The play by play man wants some information as how fastpitch and baseball compare. Like 50mph fastpitch = _____ mph baseball. If anyone knows a website that may have such information? They have never done a fastpitch game and want some filler material. They have done a baseball game and I told him fastpitch would be much faster and he would not need that much filler. Any thoughts? Both teams are now tied for first place in the PAC-6 4A Conference.

    Converting softball pitch speed to baseball

    Found this on another message board. Not sure if this is accurate or not. It sounds good...

    If a pitcher is throwing a softball at 55 MPH from 40', you multiply 55 (softball speed) x 60'6" (baseball distance)=3327.5. Then divide 3327.5 by 40 (softball distance) and the answer is 83 MPH.


    I would also tell them that it is more about reaction time than actual speed (I guess IMO). That is why a softball pitcher that can bring some heat but then has a change-up that is 10 MPH slower can make some of the best batters look foolish.

    can make some dads look pretty stupid when they feel the urge to get in the box against their daughters. mine killed me with that changeup and drop.

    a softball is about a 1/3 larger target compared to a baseball.

    That is being hit with a smaller barrell bat. Also, due to the size of the ball, the strike zone is much wider in softball.

    I can tell you for a fact that this will be a heckuva game!! Both teams bring quality players to the game!! Riverside has 2 d-1 signees if I am noe mistaken and the Rockets are led by LHP Brittany Shotwell. Man she can let it fly!! I wish she was on my pitching staff on the baseball team. I saw some of previous game and both teams are well coached. BTW, the coaches are solid friends too which will make for a fun game. Too bad we are playing at the same time, otherwist i would check it out myself!

    Great game

    Great game tonight but, Riverside takes it 4-3. Jenn Ladd put 20 k's in the book with 8 innings of work and 1 long ball over the center field fence to stop the Rockets. Congratulations Mac!
