OK Question for the board....Just interested in the answers.....What is the role of JV at your school. Are they separate at your school with no role during or before the Varsity game??

Do they watch and help Varsity and vise versa. Involved at all. Does the Varsity stay around and help the JV??

At our school, JVs scatter AFTER their game, Varsity has NO INTEREST in the JV's game AT ALL as a whole. Very discouraging FOR ME because AGAIN.....I think its a PROGRAM and EVERYBODY has a hand in building and supporting it. EVERYONE can and SHOULD be helpful in some capacity.

Just wondered how it is at other schools. Is this normal?? Am I living a pipe dream wanting them to all help each other....Thoughts

Around my area the Varsity is at home while the JV's are away or reversed.

Practice is different, they work together and separate.

The few games where one plays and the other doesn't (at home) there's some practice and a lot of cheerleading, some even while practicing.

Our JV and Varsity games are the same as hanger4. They play on the same day at the same time against the same school. One is way while the other is at home. Makes it a little tough on parents who have a DD on both teams.

Both teams practice together but they do separate them into their teams most of the time.

When we play schools that don't have JV teams, most of the time you will not see any of the JV players at the Varsity game even if it is at home. We have even had the JV coach cancel practice so he could go to the Varsity game that was away...

    Varies Depending On Coach

Like others have posted, our school's varsity and JV play on same night at opposite locations. Our JV and varsity never practice together. Our varsity team is arrogant towards the JV players. I believe our varsity coach watched one JV game all season, despite having several games not on the same night as varsity. There is a communication problem between our varsity coaches and our JV coach. Honestly, there is some blame on both sides here. Our JV coach is young and wants control of the team and insists on separate practices. The varsity squad is young and essentially set for this season and next. Our varsity coach is in his first year at our school, but has a 20+ year career. He likely will be at our school for a short time. Our former coach worked both squads together about 50% of the time. He took an interest in the JV kids and took more interest in building a program.

Our varsity team has 3 or 4 sets of uniforms. Our JV kids have one set of uniforms and it is quite old. Everyone is expected to do the same amount of fundraising. But, 100% of the funds go to the varsity. The JV parents are frustrated. But, there isn't much you can do.

    study

the kids need to study, you know.......homework , so I don't see it necessary to expect one to watch the others' games. They are students, right?

but yes, I understand. the JV's can sometimes be made to feel like second class citizens.

TEAM is TEAM at Alexander Central

If you want to see A FINE example of how to strengthen team chemistry, develop players for the next level and citizens for the life beyond softball, come on over to Alexander Central. Our ladies study, play, practice, work, bus ride, eat, and socialize together. We play on the same days and watch each others games. Every player has a role that contributes to the success of gameday. Everyone is expected to be ready to go at anytime. Our uniforms are 100% interchangeable. No one looks down on anyone. Personally, I see nothing but the ultimate display of encouragement, admiration and respect from player to player. The coaching staff, players, parents, faculty and administration have a strong bond. This creates a great environment to be a part of. Fastpitch Softball is more than a sports program at Alexander Central.

Wish our school was like that. I would love for my DDs to be part of that kind of positive atmosphere.

THANK YOU......This is really what I was fishing for...I went to a game at AC earlier and thats really what stood out to me, the togetherness. . The JV's were at this particular game,(And DID NOT have a game themselves. They were there working hard, charting, etc NOT roaming around in the parking lot.....NOT hanging in the stands....NOT staying at home. but SUPPORTING their team and the program of which they are the FUTURE. SO it is possible!!!
