Well the rich get richer, just found out today that West Rowan shortstop Phillip Miclat, who has verbally committed to play baseball at Boston College, has stated that he plans to play American Legion baseball this summer for the first time, for Rowan County, who is just returning from last year's state tournament and will be strong again already. Phillip is the younger brother of Virginia Cavalier shortstop Greg, who graduated from JM Robinson High School in 2005.

Congrats travisunc, I know you are dancing in the street over this news. How bout getting us a schedule. Thanks.

Well since one of them is heading to UNCC and the other to Boston College,,, take your pick. Obviously moving either of them over to 2b gives Rowan one of the best defenses up the middle.

I am here to tell you that Miclat will not take Roland's place at short, Justin has played legion ball now for three years and has started at SS. Micah Jarrett who played second base last year will probably head to the outfield and I think the second base position will be between Ethan Fisher and Phillip Miclat. I am going to the ER vs NW Cabarrus game tomorrow and I will find out some details about who else is playing or not playing for Rowan. I have been told that Corbin Shive might be playing showcase and Alex Britt just might not play. Rowan will be very good regardless but losing Shive for a summer could hurt the pitching staff's depth. First game is May 23 @ Kernersville.

Just got back from the East Rowan/ NW Cabarrus game in which ER won 3-0 on a complete game shutout by Justin Roland. I found out that Corbin Shive is playing showcase ball and Alex Britt was not at sign ups. The only player from SHS was Russell Michalec. Billy Veal and Nick Smith from NR. Phillip Miclat, Jake Koontz, and Hernan Bauteista from WR, and most of the ER guys like Micah Jarrett, Justin Roland, Trey Holmes, Noah Holmes, Ethan Fisher, Austin Shull. Players returning who graduated last year I heard are D.C. Cranford and Matt Hall. All in all this is a very good group of players but the loss of the probable ace Corbin Shive does hurt a little but I think some guys are going to be ready to step it up. On a side note, an interesting tid bit I heard was that Rowan released Weston Church who can still play legion ball to play at South Rowan because of NCAA rule that he can't play for coach Gantt because Gantt coaches Catawba and Rowan legion. That really stinks from a Rowan standpoint but I guess Gantt wants him to be able to play, he just can't play for Rowan because of that dumb rule.

I think Trey Holmes may be playing showcase as well.

Westboy, I agree Roland will be the SS, nice to see Miclat out there though, probably over at 2B. Also thats interesting news to hear Weston Church will be playing at South, that will be odd. But I know Coach Gantt just wants the kid to play and he would surely sign a release to let any of his players play somewhere else if thats the way it had to be, that NCAA rule has actually knocked out several former Rowan players in recent years from returning to play that final season of legion ball for Coach Gantt. Several in 2002-2003 decided to just play wooden bat instead of playing for another legion team.

As for college freshmen playing legion ball,,, this is the last season you'll see that. Legion ball goes back to an 18 yr.old deadline beginning in 2009.
