Why is speed always considered to a great pitcher? If we are looking at speed, how about who has the most break on a curve or who can take the most speed off a change up. Many factors go into a good pitcher. Mainly, someone who can control the batters with variations of speed, movement and control of the game. No radar gun can monitor all these...

Who in NC can pop 60+ on a Jugs Radar Gun

Alot of factors can determine how good a pitcher is. Just looking at pure speed who can pop 60+ on a Jugs Radar Gun?

Our former coach at AC was only concerned with how fast his pitchers could throw and failed to let them develop movement. We got by with moderate success in conference but when we faced some of the better teams it really showed. Also kept a couple pitchers from being as good as they could be. Leason being speed is fine as long as you are playing for conference titles but if you are wanting to go deep in the playoffs or be competetive at high level travel ball there better be some good movement and some off speed to go along with it

There are quite a few that can hit 60 on the radar gun. I can name 7 or 8 pretty easily, but there is really no reason to name names. I will say this...at most levels of softball the teams that have the hardest throwers tend to win the most. Look at Arizona, Tennessee and the rest of the elite programs. Now, Cat Osterman is not known for her great speed, but she throws 60+ and probably has the best drop ball in the world. I know my opinion may rub some the wrong way, but take a look at it. Tennessee had Abbott, Arizona had Finch, and a host of others. Taryn Mowatt throws 65 and when her change up is working it may be the best in the world. In today's game you need speed and a killer pitch that moves or a killer change up. I personally do not believe you need to throw 4 or 5 different pitches if you are a power pitcher, but it doesn't hurt to have them. Again, this is just my opinion and I am certainly no expert. I write this just for the sake of conversation and what I personally see.

I agree to an extent. All those mentioned throw hard but; they are throwing pitches with movement that hard. That is why they are the elite few

Isnt ball spin more important for breaking pitches rather than overall speed?

I believe you need speed and movement.
