    Leave the bases alone

    I agree with Marlinfan1!

Guys I am in full agreement with moving the pitching rubber to 43 ft. I would hate for our game to fit the guidlines of baseball if you move the bases out to 70' as I read on someone's thread you are adding an element that would require leadoffs to give the ladies an opportunity to ever still a base. My Daughter pitches and she wears a game face and I still worry about her safety when an idiot is standing behind our catcher which is almost inpossible to change. Go for moving the rubber but leave the bases where they are! It is exciting the way it is.

Let me add to my vote for moving the rubber back to 43'...

Lets add 6 to 8 Inches to the width of home plate.

    Don't get it...

The hitters are already crushing the ball with the mound at 40'. Wouldn't moving the mound to 43' give them more time to react, especially to change ups, and hit it even harder? I get that the ball will move more at 43' but if the girls are currently standing in the middle or back of the box (I know most coaches teach front of the box), all they have to do is move up in the box to get the reaction time they are used to.

Also, moving the mound to 43' doesn't help with the umps that make them throw it down the middle. It might actually make it worse as the ball should/will move more so if they are not calling it right now, what makes us think they would just because the mound is 3' further back?

    you had me at 43......

....CMMBuddy, but if we expand the plate 6-8 inches then that will put the UMPS at a huge disadvantage. They'll miss calling the strike zone high or low!

Like I stated earlier you can't change the idiot behind the plate! But the three feet will give the pitcher enough time to better prepare herself for a hit straight back to her. I have taught my daughter that it is the batters reponsibility to evade a bad pitch made by her and it is her reponsibility to protect herself from the batter. moving it back for the high school level is the right thing to do. I do not agree with them having more time to adjust to the pitch. You give a girl a 60 mph fastball and send her in the hole with a 0-2 count she will not be able to adjust to a 40 mph change up if she was standing 65' from the plate. she will be all over her front foot with bat in her left pocket!

    Last post on this...

I have seen a few pitchers get hit and man it was bang bang! The batter swung and the pitcher dropped that fast. IMO, I don't think an extra half second (is probably less) would have done those pitchers any good.

As far as the 0-2 change up, who doesn't know that is coming? hahaha

Anyway, one last thing, does anyone else teach their girls that if they get caught with a nasty change up to square around and try to bunt or slap it? Sure if it goes foul, you are out but that is still better than looking like a fool swinging at a ball that is 5' in front of the plate!

I have in the past showed bunt with 0-2 count but it would be with a less experienced batter at plate.
