Some are getting confused....Conferences are slotted a certain number and regardless of their overall record, if they finish high enough in the conference they are in. The wild card is determined by overall record. The team playing Enka got in by finishing a certain spot in their conference, which is a 3a/4a combo. The three teams that got in in the NW4A got in on overall record. You cannot leapfrog a team in your conference to get in. South Caldwell had the better overall record, East Burke had the higher win percentage, but they couldn't leapfrog McDowell. So when McDowell got in, that started a domino effect, which allowed East Burke and South to get in. I'm not saying I agree with how the playoffs are chosen, but that's how it's done in a nutshell.

    CVAC Conf.

We have 6 teams from conference (CVAC) in the play-offs

3A-Fred T. Foard and St. Stephens

    2A-Hibriten, Bandys, Maiden, Newton

No wild cards from our conference

    Good luck to all

Ok, I was just asking. I congratulate any and every team who made the playoffs.
There is one thing for sure: Show up, or go home. Every game from here to Raleigh could be your last.
My hat is off to the 16 who do make the trip to Raleigh.
I'm just hoping Harnett Central will be there.

    Can

Can U Say Hockey? All teams basically make it! Humble opinion; cheapens the conference tournament and regular season winner, allows for more injuries and upsets, and a longer more expensive tournament schedule! Oh sure makes a few more dollars for schools but parents pay the price.

Suggestion: Top team in each conference for regular season should be automatic, tournament winner if different, second place teams from each conference and that is it! Teams with losing records should not be rewarded unless they fall in to the three areas mentioned. ( if Wildcard needed to even out field, use best record against teams in playoffs):deal::freak:

This is pitiful. I remember when it used to mean something to make the playoffs. Not any more. Not picking on South Caldwell as they aren't the only team in that shouldn't be but I do know a little about them as they are in our conference. But they only had 8 wins and finished dead last in conference. Of their 8 win at least 4 were agianst 2A teams. (Hibriten. West caldwell, Shelby and Bunker Hill) One 3A team St Stephens. That should be a consideration. East Burke was similar. It's not just softball all sports have gotten watered down and it comes down to money

I have to say it's not about the all mighty dollar, except for the state(maybe)

    1st round games
    130.00 for two umpires
    Gate keeper fee if any

Split the remaining profits between both schools. We hosted a soccer game in the fall and lost money as a school.

If the visiting school travels more than 100 miles, then the host school pays for the umpire and they split the entire gate. In basketball we hosted NW Guilford and if I'm not mistaken, lost money as well. I think NW took in 171.00 from us, but had to pay for travel. Now our cost is 1.45 a mile so you figure $300 for a 100 mile trip, so you could loose a decent bit of money playing in the playoffs... The state collects 15 or 25% of the gate after expenses..

I disagree that only 1st and 2nd place should get in. That would leave a lot of good teams out of the playoffs. Go back and look at the 3rd, and 4th place teams and there are more good than bad. SW4A, NW 4A, Central Piedmont. This is 4A west only...
