Katie Gravel has been named new head coach taking over for Jay Murray. Murrah is the new coach for Draughn. Good luck to both.

Katie Gravel...a name from the past. Infact I about started a riot with some East Burke fans over her back in the old charlotte.com message board days.

Are any of the East Burke kids defecting to Draughn next year?

Nice to see all of those Valdese/Drexel natives jumping ship at EB. The only one I'm sad to see going is Cozort, a good coach and even better guy.

Big Dan I sure hope you didn't say anything bad about Gravel, she'd probably beat you up. :189:

If you are a Valdese/Drexel native,

how can it be jumping ship to go to Draughn from EB?

Because it's the easy thing to do?

Like I said, they think they are going to have an easier time at Draughn because they think all of the athletes come from the Drexel/Valdese areas. Just a typical attitude from the people of those towns, I hope EB owns them in as many sports as they can.

You finally have some success at EB and they leave. I respect those that have stayed.

BTW- The soccer coach didn't accomplish squat, it doesn't matter that he left.

    I respectfully disagree, I feel

that leaving EB for Draughn is the hard thing to do. Starting from scratch at a new school is never easy, just ask the coaches at Patton. I feel that most of the teachers and coaches that went to Draughn live in the Drexel/Valdese/RC area and with gas prices the way they are, who can blame them. I just hope EB and Draughn can have a tough, intense, clean rivalry that doesn't turn ugly like Freedom-Patton has. It will take Draughn a few years but I feel they'll compete well with EB. Eventually, it will be great for all four Burke County High Schools, as more athletes will be given opportunities to compete. I'm sure all former EB graduates who live in the Drexel, Valdese, and RC areas will pull for EB except when they play Draughn.

    Also, EB has had success

over their 34 years, not just this past year, although this past year has been awesome in a varity of sports.

All of the girls are excited about having Katie.

Only one young lady is undecided at this point. BUT, all the underclassmen are being made to go to the school in their district. As of right now that is....but with the Burke County School Board, who knows what they will allow.

FWIW, I can't speak on the coaches, but some teachers are going to Draughn from East Burke with very little input on the matter.
