    God Bless

It doesn't surprise me that God put an Angel in Lumberton. I think its his way of showing us the right way.

A Tough Season Ends in Inspired Fashion

This year's Lumberton Pirate team had to deal with the death of their coach's wife as the season began. Naturally, they struggled early due to inexperience, the absence of their coach, and the loss of someone so close to the program. They could have mailed in the season after a 3-7 start. But when Coach Hodges returned, the team rallied and has now won fifteen of the last sixteen games. They culminated the amazing run last night with a 3-2 win to capture the Two Rivers Conference championship.
This is not the most talented team Hodge's has coached. But this one just seems to not be able to lose. Maybe an angel is looking over this team. The ball has bounced our way since the streak began. The opponents line shots seem to always be right at somebody. Our flares seem to always find a safe place to land. Its been an amazing thing watch and I am sure great therapy for a grieving family.

Just wanted to let you guys know how special it was for us to play in the Cancer Awareness game this year. We were really impressed with the work that went into it. I will say that as fellow members of the TR conference, we couldn't ask for a better team to represent us as conference champs. Never once saw you guys hang your heads or get down. I can honestly say that 2 out of the 3 times we played you, you guys beat us.
Congratulations to the team and the coaches!

Wanted to pull this thread back to the top as Lumberton continues to advance. Most people don't know what our coach and team has been through. They have now won 15 of 16 since Coach Hodges returned to the team.
As I said earlier, an angel looks over the team. Last night against Fuquay Varina, we hit exactly two balls hard, and one of those was run down and caught. Two runs scored early off of three infied errors. The winning run scored on a flair that barely made the outfield grass. A soph pitcher stepped up and threw the game of his life.
Congrats on the job Coach Hodges has done with this team. He should be a top candidate for 4A Coach of the Year.

I read some very nice things about Coach Hodges and his beloved wife Angela. My heart goes out to him, his family and the friends of Lumberton baseball. I wish them all the best to go all the way, may God be with them. Always.

    Inspiration

What a great story to share. Thank-you for letting us be inspired by your young men and their coach. These young men have been touched in a way they will remember and share for the rest of their lives. Good luck as you move forward.

Even if the season does not end in a championship, you are still champions.
