ncsu82... i would like to get some answers to those questions as well because i don't think they are enitrely true. its as simple as this... TBR's base is well-west of the triangle. Legion Ball is ALIVE and WELL in the western half of the state and in the east, it is dropping like flies.

    1. Baseball is so much better in Meck. County than Wake? What is the basis for that? 4A Championships? From 1990-2007, 14 4A State Championships came from the East (If I counted right, unsure of some teams -- South View '91, Lee '96, Lee/Fuquay in '01/'02). S. Caldwell '07, NW Guilford '98, Providence '95, and Glenn '92 were the winners residing in the Western "half".

    2. 4 teams in the West could win the East? Who? South Caldwell probably could. Sure... others probably could as well. But judging by the last 20 years or so (Before 1990, the East won in 86/87 and the West won in 88/89), I don't think the West exactly owns the East.

    3. Most of the talent comes from the Triad and surrounding areas? I would argue that. There is quite a bit of talent that goes on to play college and professional baseball that grow up in the Raleigh area... And QUITE a bit of talent that is brought up down-east in areas like Goldsboro, Kinston, New Bern, Greenville, Wilmington, Laurinburg, Wilson, etc.

It's a good argument. I think a point should also be made about the number of schools. How many 3A schools does Wake County have? There is a number of 4A schools right on top of each other in Wake County. I don't know nearly enough about 3A/2A/1A schools to even think about making a case for, but I don't think Western ball is superior to Eastern.

I really wish the eastern folks on TBR would stand up and make some noise here.

Not only that BUT trust me on this one....I give the edge to the Eastern Mom's as the superior talent. Blondes do have more fun with Stretchy!

I can only speak in terms of the Mecklenburg schools. Because there are so many schools in this district it is tough to dominate. You will always have the better programs that are consistently good, but to have the best team in the state is very, very difficult.

But if each school could combine with just one other school, it would be a different story. South Meck/ Ardrey Kell...Ardrey Kell/ Providence....Weddington/Mallard Creek...Butler/Providence/Independence...Myers Park/South Meck.

All of these schools have had star players pulled from other schools due to redistricting.

Then you have North Meck/Hopewell up on the North end. Both schools have received tremendous players from a once strong Vance program.

So the number of talented players far exceed most areas, but the number of schools stretch that talent. But it is why a number of summer programs can be so strong and have strong depth: South Charlotte Panthers, On Deck, Megastars, Fungo, Pineville Legion, Charlotte Legion, etc., etc.

Obviously, Stretchy spends very little time out West...especially in Caldwell County and Hickory. It's amazin'!!!!!!

Thanks. Actually, I agree with alot of your post. Really just trying to generate some feedback from folks east of tobacco road.

Although Braves does say, and I agree, "the number of talented players (in the Charlotte area) far exceeds most areas. Then the question becomes why is that? It's not just a numbers thing, as Wake rivals Meck in population. Instruction, facilities, what?

It would be interesting to see a list of the top 200 players over the last five years from NC and where they resided to see the demographics.

I don't have time. Maybe Stretchy can do it. He doesn't have a job.

Eastern NC Mom's definitely take the title. Man, those moms down there sure are somethin'.

Ardrey Kell sounds tuff with the new school/addition of proven players.

Green Hope HS was like that a few years ago here in Cary. They sucked most of the baseball talent (and female talent) out of Cary HS, added their own guys and were very strong around here. For example, I live about 2 miles from Cary HS, 5 or so miles from Apex HS, around 10 miles to Green Hope, around 10 miles to Athens Drive, around 15 miles to Middle Creek and Panther Creek, and around 15 miles to Garner HS. Don't forget the rest of the Raleigh schools that aren't too far (Leesville, Millbrook, Sanderson, Broughton, etc.). These schools are all 4AA in football terms.

    Top 200

I'd be interested to see that Top 200 players as well. What would that be based upon though? There are some great defensive players that don't necessarily have stellar batting averages.

Yep...this is pretty much the same situation as the Charlotte schools. The concern for some with the resdistricting is someone can live 2 miles from a school, yet is FORCED to transfer to a school 10 miles or more away.

South Charlotte and North Charlotte are continuing to grow rapidly. They will need new schools in the near future....resulting in more stretching of talent.
