Are most of the state teams picked on repatation alone? Some of these State Teams only had one try-out and that is not enough time to get your talent noticed when some of the girls go to a less know school. Some girls that made the team didn't even come o the tryout. For example I know a senior that recieved a scholorship to play ball that didn't get picked for the State Games because she was not well know by the High School coaches that are coaching that team. She batted almost 500 for the year but goes to a lesser know High School. Of Course she got her Scholorship Offer through Travel Ball.

There were no girls picked on the tryouts that I'm aware of who were not there! In my opinion we should have had many more girls trying out than were there. There are many players that would have made the decisions a lot tougher. I know of a few girls who did not tryout because of conflicts with summer plans and/or TB conflicts.

    Also...

Many kids (very, very talented travel ball players) are choosing not to even BOTHER to go out due to the coachs in a couple of districts and the POLITICS
    that go with that.

Have heard nothing but positives from District 8 tryouts which were held at RS Central. First day was Saturday 12 to 6 and then the following day 12 to 5. Eleven hours of drills and scrimage with quality coaching. The 2 day tryout was good instruction and a good experience for my dd. I wish it could have been a positive for all districts.

That would be great if all they try outs were handled the same way but some only had one try out for a few hours.

    Too bad

Turning into a Freshman/Sophomore event due to Dynamite. Too bad, wish more could go out but with the current format due not see this changing.

Something needs to be done so all girls can try out and not miss the biggest showcase in the Southeast.

Last year was the first year of the State Games format from my understanding. The way the teams are chosen is far better than the way teams were allowed to enter prior to this. In the past it was possible for an inexperienced rec team to compete against a highly experienced travel ball team. Anyone realizes not only the boredom that could be but the very real danger that could be!

I'm not sure of the procedure for the way players enter tryouts but it is available on line. The manner of selecting players will improve over time. But I don't believe everyone will ever be satisfied because there are going to be some that won't make it. This will not necessarily be because they can't play but because rosters are limited to 13 or so. To have someone say they are not trying out because they believe it's unfair or for whatever reason isn't really good either. But if they have an attitude like that then it probably is better that they not try out. And I don't mean that derogatively, either.

As far as it being the best "showcase" I prefer that it never be thought of in that context. Last year's State Games softball was one of the best tournaments I've ever attended. Super stadium, professional announcer, teams were very closely matched. Wonderful, wonderful atmosphere!! I loved watching those games!! And it was so pleasant that they were competing for the sake of competing and not as a potential property of some college scholarship. And I don't mean to minimize how wonderful and rewarding it is to receive a scholarship! But that tournament was different and I hope it stays free of the bonds of anything outside of pure competition.

I did have one disappointment. One of the young ladies I know didn't get much playing time but I certain that was an oversight because she's definitely one of the best. And the coach got an ear full for that mistake.

Considering that was the first year of the new format that is not bad at all.

Come out this year with an open mind and support the girls in the State Games. And come with a positive attitude; you'll feel so much better!

Know for a fact that next year this WILL be held during the week so as not to interfere with any showcases. They absolutely tried to get it done this year but the logistics just did not work out. This in its infancy and will become better every year once the bugs are ironed out. Don't always understand or agree with the selection process but you know when you get something this big going there will be bumps in the road. Have had several respectible people say how big this CAN become if everyone will just be patient and let it grow. Jeez...this is the reason i hate cell phones got to know it and got to know it NOW......:spanka:
