Have you ever notice that we are fine with something, until something happens bad to us...then we are ready to sue ?? If we have a problem with something why aren't we trying to get it changed prior to the mishap ??? It's like the old commercial, "How Many Licks Does It take To Get To The Center Of A Lollipop"?, I guess the world will never know !!!

    Windfall!

Not using it as excuse Guru but I think too many folks are looking or hoping for that big windfall. Suing someone seems to be the easiest way to get that 'big payday'! Think we can blame TV for that...

Having said that, I think one of the biggest problems is that folks don't know what to do or how to do it. We have had several examples of this in TBR posts including improving umpiring and changing the rules for the girls safety. We all weigh in with our comments and opinions but at the end of the day, the thread goes to the bottom of the pile and nothing gets done.

I could see it coming a mile away... Some kid is going to get hurt or worse and their parents are going to start looking for people to sue like the ump for only calling pitches down the middle, the coach for not forcing the kid to wear protection, the rules committe for not changing the rules, the bat manufacturer for creating a 'lethal weapon' bat, etc. They will get money from someone and kill the sport for the rest of us.

I believe this is already happening. Saw something on the news last night (didn't see the whole piece) about a little league kid who died when he got hit in the chest with a line drive and it stopped his heart. Yep, you guessed it, I believe the parents are suing someone so this doesn't happen to other kids. Perhaps that is the only way to really get things done...

Yea, I read about that one, in 2006 when the kid was 12 he was hit in the chest while pitching and it stopped his heart for 20 minutes. Lack of oxygen to his brain has permanently disabled him. He can't talk, or do anything for himself now. The parents are now sueing the makers of Louisville Slugger for making the bat, Sports Authority for selling the bat, and the little league organization that he played at, for knowing the danger and still allowing the "non wooden bat" to be used.........

You want to hear a softball one, a little on the humerous side?

Not nearly the issue as this base ball youngerster though.
My daughter was playing LL, in the Pacific NW. we are the home team, for the little league softball world Series, District 4 of Oregon. My daughters team won the regionals and reached the series. There is a lot going on. I am not the headcoach this season of 2005, I am the 1st base and assistant. On to the games.
so we are midway in the tourney, playing a team (think I will just leave out the region, it matters not for this discussion). Right as the game is ready to go. the UIC comes to our dugout and announces, that this other team has been issued 2 warning about rolling their shorts and they will be using this game as an example. no other warnings will be issued. Make sure your girls do not do it, or they will be ejected for altering the ws uniform. Now, I know this may sound benign, but I gotta tell ya, I know when unis dont fit, girls sometimes roll them for comfort. no problem. but these girls were rolling them so high, that, well, a lot showing. and they were in a prime opportunity to make the ESPN games. LL didnt want this, so they let them know. It was pretty blatant in my opinion. So, the UIC leaves us, goes over to the opponents dugout, issuing the same notice.
2nd inning, we are mid bat and getting goin. they make a defensive change, and the girl that comes out of the dugout, looks directly at the 2nd base ump and rolls her shorts up till her cheeks show. I kid you not. I am like, wholly crap. First pitch, ump ejects the player.
The players family takes LL to court, that night (as it must be decided before the other games go on) they are in that till 1am. as an ejected player, if the team should win, the player is lost for the next game as well, which is a tv game. so the parents are claiming LL ruined her chanches for national recognition (at age 12), and was attempting to sue for damages. The player and parents lost this case. It changed how LL had to deal with uniforms but man, what the heck. I saw the UIC tell you man, what where you thinking? lol.. anyway. this kind of thing, pure lunacy. I hope those parent drown in it. I hope the player learned some respect. I doubt it.
