Duke may be one thing, but the two biggest disappointments are Clemson and Miami. How can Clemson and Miami not have a softball team?

I agree - Clemson should be embarrased. There commitment to women's sports is minimal in my opinion. As an alumni with two daughters, that is hard to say.

    Duke, Clemson, Wake, Miami.....

...and any other school has to have equality in mens/womens sports. Title 9. Some schools field say a womens golf team, and others don't. NCSU had a womens golf team in the '80s, my brothers hottie girlfriend was on the team, BAM!, no more, she transfers to Ohio St. As for Duke, former AD JD Aleeva said that as long as he was AD, there would be no womens softball at Duke....See ya, DHead. Now that Mr. Holier than thou AD Aleeva has gone, maybe the new AD will have a different opinion. We'll see. As for Clemson, I've had, well my DD has had email contact with the AD there and she was informed that yes, Clemson was in progress of establishing a coaching staff and new fastpitch program, but it would not be in place in 2008/2009. As for Miami and Wake?....I have no clue. Clemson appears to be the next program, and Duke?, well at least the new AD will have a choice as what programs are of interest in the Duke environment. Remember this TBR, Duke is little New Jersey, and field hockey, lacrosse, and other womens sports may be more important than fastpitch. One thing is for sure, these schools don't lack the $$$$$ to make it work.

A lot of players and parents I talk with are unaware of club teams in college.

Some of the colleges that I'm aware of that have club teams are NC State, UNC-CH, ECU, Clemson, Princeton, Georgia, Tennessee, Virginia. And I know there are many more.

Those teams are quite competitive! They are not rec type teams. I've helped out from time to time. They don't have paid coaches. As a matter of fact it is against the rules to have paid coaches. The ladies handle all the business matters of the clubs. Such as scheduling, hosting tournaments, tryouts, etc. They do a lot of work and they do it together. They have various benefit events they do for different causes. Seems like if I remember that's part of the expectations of being a university club team.

Club teams don't have the heavy time commitment required of division teams. State, for example, practices a couple times a week. Most of the travel is on weekends except maybe for the Club Team Nationals which, by the way, were held at Middle Creek this year. Of 54 teams competing NC State came in 3rd. Don't under rate what I'm saying here; there have been, and may still be, players that could qualify for D1 ball. I know of at least one who turned down D1 ball because she couldn't fit her schedule with it.

I could go on and on about this but I'm hoping someone else will add to this. Get your DD to at least look into the club teams. They will be happily surprised. ECU even had two club teams a few years ago. There have been some well-known players from the TB circuit on various teams.

I love it for the girls. And for all you parent coaches that have lost your trainees due to aging up to the college level there is ample opportunity to coach club ball. As assistants and sometimes head coaches. You will love it; all you have to do is coach. The girls are in charge!!! No more nagging parents!!
