Swain County has a very good team. Good pitching, defense. You will probably see them in Raleigh. Swain capitalized on several Cherryville mistakes and Swain had 2 timely hits that were a foot of being foul. Cherryville had a great season. Kids really stepped up to the plate. 20-6, out right 1A/2A Southern Piedmount Conference Champs. Cherryville loses only 3 seniors but all three will be dearly missed. All 3 contributed in a major way to the teams success. Thanks seniors, Haley, Camille and Ashton! All 3 had big hits tonight along with Emily Self, Sarah Teague, Mary Grace Fraley and several others.
    Emily Self finished with 13 KO's, 6 hits allowed, 2 BB's, 2 ER, 19-6 on the year.

    Congratulations Swain!
Congratulations Cherryville and thanks for a great season.

Three errors in a row by southern didn't help either. Hats off to NN. Their coach had them ready to swing the bats.

Ok guys, still looking for someone to crow about some of the "underdogs" left in the tourney with one game left to Raleigh.

4-A #3 North Meck (i know, i know, not a BIG surprise for anyone who's seen them play)
    3-A #4 SW Guilford & #3 DH Conley
    1-A WC Northside & #3 Murphy

Ok maybe ya'll are so quiet because you think you're gonna jinx someone. Ahhh.. superstitious ball players

    Triton Beat South Granville 1-0

This was a true pitchers deul.
(WP) Candice Faircloth gave up 2 hits, 4 walks, and 7 K's.
(LP) Brittany Evans gave up no hits, 1 walk, and 8 K's.
Hard to believe you can have a no hitter and lose but, you can.
Only run scored on 2 errors and a sacrifice.
SG had runners in scoring position multiple times but, Candice managed her way out with great help from her teamates.

Agree with WindmillR, each team had 4 errors, and a couple mental errors, this game was about offense. Each team has a dozen hits. Having the last bat proved to be the difference. Probably the best hitting team NN has faced this year, to date. Striking out the side in the top of the seventh kept Northern within striking distance. Probably the most exciting game I've seen played between 2 high school teams. A shame one team had to lose, but 64 teams make it to the play-offs in 3A, 63 of those end their season with a loss. Good luck in the next round to all remaining teams.

    West Wilkes

Hearing that West Wilkes beat Jordan Matthews 5-1. Setting up another battle with East Surry. This one might be worth a trip to "Mt. Pilot" as two previous meetings this year were 2-1 games.

Wow - 20 strikeouts against a great hitting team like Central. Amazing game by C, including the 3-4 hitting and the game winning RBIs.

OK Parkland, I'll take the bait.

Northside as a wildcard has got to be a little surprising to some. They've shut out all three of there opponents in the playoffs. Their pitcher, Amanda Beirne is a great pitcher, great student and a wonderful young lady. She's an '09 that you need to keep your eye on.

Don't be surprised to see Norhtside in Raleigh next week.
