Not to hard to figure out. My question was what school(s) work their non starters in games.

 

No if that were the case. Who would you be strating???

Don't make me come after you again Plate!! You were doing so good lately.

 

why would a team play their non-starters in a short 24-game high school season where you need every game you can get to prepare for the state playoffs? you play your best 9, i'm sorry.

 

What do you see

Plate Dad? Are you seeing kids not getting playing time that you feel should get it?

Teams are built during the season. Players are made in the off season.

 

In General not just you!!!

What kind of team are you building? Play your best nine or ten? Then why carry a 15 to 18 man roster? All I am asking if you are building a team to win a high school championship for a year or two or a team that can compete every year and win one here and there? Why would you hold a tryout? If you build your players in the off season. You would know your players. Not sure but is there a rule in HS baseball that says you have to carry so many players? Pretty sure there is a limit in the max number? And most school carry that many. As you have said your team is built during the season. Why carry players that you know you may play only a few innings during the season? Why waste the time? You have said many times that you have limited time to coach your players. Why waste it?

So the extra players are tokens. I gave you the chance to say you are on varsity now. BS! Why not work those players during the season? In games that we know all teams face, the schools that you know you could put anyone out there and get a win. Why not see those players that work for that moment take the field? Any field! You say teams are built during the season and players are off season. What about the starters that you play during the season that play for another squad during the off season? Guess they they fall in the special group?

I am not saying that every player on every team deserves playing time during the season in every game. It is not reasonable. I am saying how do you justify not playing a player during your season in games that hold no meaning on the season toward the championship quest to give them a taste. Guess we can see how they play during practice. Pitcher during bullpen? I guess in playing the best nine or ten we forget. Question: Would you carry a player just to have him ther? I mean if you had 9 good players would you carry a player that is less talented than the 12? Why???. If one was injuried you would throw that player out there, that has not played in any season games and say if you screw up I will understand.. Not!!!

Do not take this as anything other than what it is. What do you do with your bench players during the season is a coaches decision. What he feels builds his team. If I could ask the teams that are in the hunt year after year (not just a couple and go away for awhile) but year after year. I would love to.
