yeah - sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

If I recall correctly - last year RS Central rode Arrowood's arm as far as they could but it finally gave out against SE Guilford.

Bring him back on one days rest?

Sometimes you have to care more about the health of your player than winning a game. You throw the best available and you battle.

But thats not up to me.

sounds correct wossa. thats why i like the 3 game series and believe it should be used in more than just the past 2 rounds. the best teams win that way, not just the team who has 1 stud pitcher.

id at least have the kid available for as many innings as he could give me either at the beginning or end of the game.

i agree with coach 27 in most cases but if their other pitchers are giving up 17 runs in 5 innings i'd say they need to sit the kid down and ask him if his arm feels well enough to pitch tomorrow. these games don't come around very often.

What do you think he is going to say?

Game 3 Western Finals. A chance in a life time to make it to the state finals and play for a State Title.

"How does your arm feel?" "Do you think you can go?"

What is any kid going to say regardless of how his arm feels? Thats why they have coaches. To make those decisions for the players.

But again thats not my decision to make Im not the coach. Good luck to both teams.

If he says he can pitch then its my opinion that the coaches owe it to the kid to throw him. He's the one that's got them this far. He may be their only chance to upset east rowan again. I think if he doesnt pitch at least a couple innings in tomorrow night's game they would be short changing theirselves. Assuming, of course, that his arm (at least according to him) is good enough to go. If you're east rowan who would you rather see - the kid who no-hit you, on 1 days rest? or some other kid who's fully rested and fresh?

when Conley played Ragsdale in Greensboro two years ago for the state title started the same pitcher in game three that started game one the night before. I'm sorry I can't remember his name - since his pitching on no days rest is what won that title for them.

Alex White won game two and closed out game three - but that other Conley pitcher battled Ragsdale's Catlin Carter (who pitched an amazing two hitter) for five innings and kept Ragsdale off the board. Conley scored two runs on two sac flies for the 2-0 shut out win.

That was a gutsy call by Conley to throw that kid again. He pitched the maximum innings he could. He actually pitched better in the second game. Of course it helped they had Alex White and his 93 mph fastball waiting in the wings.

The coach would be crazy if he pitch him on Sat. The kid is playing at the next level and will have many more big games.

which brings up the question since my memory fails - how many innings can a player pitch over how many games/days.

If Horne pitched eight innings Thursday night - how many can he pitch Saturday night?

yep - that's it. He did a great job for Conley. without him I doubt they win that title.
