Are metal cleats legal in ASA this year?

Does anyone know of any metal cleat injuries that occurred this season? Were any of them season enders?

    No metal cleats

Disclaimer: This is just my opinion! :)

The girls should not be wearing metal cleats. I know some of the fields are very hard but other than that, I think there is more downside to wearing metal cleats like twisted ankles when the cleat stays but the foot is trying to turn and sliding into a base that is being blocked.

I don't know for sure but I think a girl got hurt in a TB game in Cary last weekend. Girl slid into third, third was blocking the base with her foot. All I saw was third base girl drop and grab her foot/ankle area. They ended up carrying her off the field. I noticed later when the girls were leaving the dugout that the girl that slid was wearing metal cleats. Let me state clearly that there was NO intent from the girl sliding into third. She just slid as normal.

My daughter prefers the metal cleats now. I just hate that she will have to go back to the rubber cleats this summer...I don't think the ASA allows metal yet.

I was very concerned when I first learned they would be allowed. I was worried more about torn ACLs and sprained or broken ankles. But I read somewhere that most metal cleat injuries were the girls cutting themselves with their own cleats. I didn't see or hear of any serious injuries this year. The only injury I saw was one girl whose teammate stepped on her foot coming out of the dugout. It was painful but she was able to play. Different story for the effect they had on the bat finish, though. Some of the bats ended up with cleat cuts from the player using the bat to knock the dirt off the cleats.

The cleats definitely helped with the footing. Some of the fields are so hard that the normal cleats actually slip and slide. I believe it helps all around--throwing, hitting, baserunning, etc.

I'm all for them now. As long as they're not used inappropriately.

My DD loves them now. We worked very hard on how to properly slide with metal. The only injury she had was the blisters when they were new. Over all she says she'll miss them this summer.
SBPhreak I hope your bat revcovers and is able to continue on. J/K

I witnessed 3 injuries due to metal cleats this season. They have no place in HS. How in the h could the NCHSAA allow metal cleats but refuse to move the rubber to 43' ?
