2009 Outlook / Predictions

Then why play teams that are not at you best nine's level? What are they learning? They can beat a team with less talent???

 

I think East Forsyth will be good but might lack some senior leadership. This team lost 4 seniors, 3 which started. Though all but 1 pitcher is back for next year, all of East's pitchers will be Juniors except Justin Bolens. I see Shane Dickerson and Evan Orenstein carrying the pitching load and using Justin Bolens as a closer. There are also some JV guys that can pitch and locate. There is one kid that can throw it pretty well but he does not have an idea where it is going.

At the plate, the Eagles will be led by Luke Dunlap. The kid will be a sophomore next year and I expect he will sensational. East should finish yet again in the top 3 of the Metro 4-A, but Northwest and Grimsley both will be loaded for what will be the last year of the Metro 4-A.

 

Seniors are always missed. What I could tell from that East bunch. They work together well. Everyone seems to be ready to do thier part, step up and say ready coach.

 

Providence Will be Back Strong

Look out for Providence High School next year. Lots of talent. They may have an extra "chip on the shoulder" after a tough series against Ardrey Kell where they had some key players injured at the worst possible time. Sometimes that "chip" spurs a team on to accomplish great things.

 

There is no limit

to the size of rosters in hs. Its up to each coach.

The season starts in Feb and you have games in less than 2 weeks. That is not enough time for a player to start getting ready to make a difference on his hs team. What a player does in the off season will determine what he is capable of doing during the season. Tryouts will determine who has done their work in the off season and who has not.

Just play to win every game and get guys in that deserve it when you get the chance.

Every team in any sport has guys who sit the bench and don't play much.

Baseball, more than any other sport, is a game where you can lose on any given day to a team who may be far inferior to you. You cannot risk putting your back-ups in there just because on paper the opponent might not be very strong. And even if the opponent is obviously weak and probably has no chance, you need to get your starters as many at-bats as possible. The guys who will be determining what type of playoff run your team will have that season.

Should Southeast Guilford have given some other guys who work hard in practice every day a chance to start against Lake Norman? since Lake Norman was a #6 seed and Southeast Guilford was supposedly one of the best teams in the state, and the game would probably be an easy one for Southeast?

2009 Sanderson 4A CAP 7 conference

Sanderson (Raleigh, NC) made it to the 2008 East Finals, the first time since 1992, with their starters made up of six juniors and three seniors. Looks good for next year with these six now as seniors and having made the state playoffs in their sophmore and junior years, advancing further each year.

They will have as returning starters as seniors next year 2B Robert Brunson, C/P Max Gagnon, RF/3B Travis Trumps, SS Kyle Wigmore, P/1B Charles Wolfe, CF Kyle Wood. Add in P/C Bryan Burke as a arising junior and other rising juniors into the mix. I also look forward to other rising seniors to step up their game in the off season so as to contribute in 2009.

Head Coach Todd Laughlin is a class act and will be in his third year as the varsity coach (34-18) and was the head coach of these seniors when they were on the JV team as freshman. His team on the field is a reflection of his personality - - always staying calm and keep on battling. He is working to build a baseball program at Sanderson.
