It is rumored that Coach Greer from Fred T. Foard voluntarily stepped down last evening. Coach Greer was a players coach that will truly be missed by the student athletes, parents, administration, and community. Not many coaches in the state have won as many games in the past 3 years as Coach Greer. I believe he won 25 games in 06, 19 games in 07, and 16 games this past season. When Coach Greer took over the program in 2004 he inherited a one win team that graduated several starters. If this rumor is true it will be a major blow to the baseball program at FTF. Can anyone confirm this rumor?

have not talked to him yet, but heard it from a parent.

this will definitely hurt the program. Coach Greer is one of the best men that i know. he cares about his players on and off the field and makes them better people. he will definitely be missed at foard and also from the other dugouts.

Foard/Greer had a couple of very fortunate things going for them. When he took over as head coach, there was a dramatic influx of talent that came about from the beginnings of travel ball in the Hickory area. Many of these kids played on successful AAU teams for 4-5 years and pretty much played year round. In addition, the conference realignment to a 2A/3A really bode well for the 3A teams (Foard, Hickory and St Stephens). It was a step down from the old SW3A conference.

It will be interesting to see who the replacement will be. The JV coach (Cadle) deserves a long look and should be the only one at the school considered. With very limited resources, he seems to get a lot out of his teams year after year. Whoever it is, it will be a tough road ahead. The talent pool is very thin and Foard will be in an extremely tough (3A/4A) conference year after next.

For sure, the players will miss Greer.

Jamie Lowe, formerly of North Forsyth, and before that assistant at FTF would make a great hire. I don't know the specifics of his tenure at North Forsyth but he has several players go on to the college level and be highly successful, as well as, some deep runs in the 4A state playoffs many seasons.

I know he has been looking for the right place to go for a year and this seems like a perfect fit. If I was a parent or school administrator, I would want a Coach who is going to bring a college type environment and practice schedule to the table. A coach who will make his players accountable to their teammates and themselves. Basically, a coach who can make players and teams perform at their top talent level, but also help teach the lessons in life that are available though sports.

Coach Lowe would be a prize catch for Ford.

I second that....unless I've pulled him to Charlotte. If I was Foard, I'd jump on him quick before I get him.

In my opinion Jamie Lowe is as good of a high school baseball coach as there is in North Carolina. This would be a great hire if FTF could pull it off.

Hope he gets in touch with the school pretty soon. This will be a major hire for Mrs B both as a parent and school administrator, since her son Jacob was the starting catcher this year as a soph. Heck a little bear told me even a former D2 coach from the area might be looking for a high school coaching job.
