That is a tough choice! They probably have many more friends and loyalties at school than on the TB team. The hs teams usually have players that have been together 4 years or more. A lot of TB teams pick up "better" players as the years go by so I the loyalty may not be as close as it is on their hs teams.

Most TB teams I have been involved with usually give hs teams the higher priority. After all, they do try to impress on the girls the importance of school! Some TB teams don't even schedule tournaments until hs has finished most of their activities.

I've had opinions for and against both sides previously. Depending on which side we needed at the time. But my "neutral" opinion is school comes first! That's 12 years versus 3 or 4 years and a lot of times that 3 or 4 years is not on the same team or with the same teammates.

I'll second that great idea! Which means it probably makes too much sense for the schools to go along with....ha.

    here's how

our high school does this (keep in mind large 4A school over 2000 students). have 3 awards programs per year, one after each sports season. everyone gathers in auditorium for assembly to introduce all the coaches and each coach only announces the "big" awards, mvp, coach's special pet, best sportsmanship, best offense, best defense, etc you know the routine................. then each sport dismisses to an individual room for a less formal recognition of each team member and minor awards , letters, certificates, comments, whatever, etc, etc.

then everyone from all sports is invited to partake of light refreshments in a central area on their way out.

then head back to the house. done deal.

    First Of All---

School Banquets should not interfere with the weekends, like the kids are not at school enough during the other 5 days of the week. Probably the AD couldn't arrange his time during the week so he scheduled everybody else's time around his schedule. Anyways weigh out the situation either pick an award ceremony or bettering yourself on the field. Come by my house I've got over a hundred trophies that are collecting dust along with certificates in boxes. Haven't found one yet that has improved my DD's game except by hard work on the diamond. I say if you've committed to a team STAY COMMITTED unless the team chemistry isn't there, but that's another story !!!

    Go to the banquet

My parents always said finish what you start. How do you TB coaches feel when your players do not show up for practice, end of year party, etc. Our awards can not be presented till the last conference team is eliminated from the state playoffs. Butler has won the last three state championships. I guess it is not the schools fault. Communicate with your Summer coaches the issues. If they do not understand then I guess you are on the wrong team.

    Over committed

Sometimes we just overcommitt our kids. Since we started playing Showcase and ASA, we decided to not play till school is finished. This year a National qualifier in SC this coming weekend has changed that practice. We will have one of our best players missing due to graduation but that was not even an issue for us, it is a one time thing in her life. Missing an award banquet to attend a travel ball tourney to me is an individuals decision and depends on her relationship with school, teammates, teachers, coaches, etc. High school is more than just a sport and if a kid wants to attend an award banquet, they should be able and not be second guessed by others. To each his own!
