Maybe I'm wrong, but the college recruiters I know work their butts off. If they have to get up early to watch the players they are interested in....so be it. I can say this with confidence. Most of the scouts are passionate in what they are doing.....and some are like "gym rats". If there was a game at 4:00 am and it showcases players they are interested in; they will be there.

I know there are some out there that are lazy. I've seen them. But they don't tend to be around the coaching business very long.

When you play at the PG event at East Cobb in July or the PG event in Jupiter in the fall, those guys are at the field while the fog is clearing and most stay until the lights are turned off.

If these guys didn't like what they do and were bothered about the times they needed to attend to see a players(s)...they need to find a sales job and get out of the business.

Your posts all the way back to your first seem concerned alot about the Dirtbags and show you as a homer for the Cubs. You dont sound like any scout I've ever heard of unless you're a "Cub" Scout!

    Signed/Committed Players

Seriously folks - I did not mean to insinuate anything negative about the Dirtbags. As I said - I am 100% FOR anyone who is promoting baseball.

I was merely stating that with gas prices soaring, I doubt very many recruiters will be chasing players who have made their choices known. So for all of you folks who worry that somehow your UNCOMMITTED player will be overlooked - STOP YER FRETTING!

And insofar as Andy Partin - I don't know him, I have heard of him, and I appreciate what he does.

Correct Dawgs!! This same assertion was made several months back. Some folks need to do more looking before thay leap. It should also be noted that a big part of what goes on with regards to , "hyping" players, goes on behind the scenes. The showcase team that has what might be perceived as a unfavorable schedule, and who possess talented players, needs to do the same behind the scenes work that Andy Partin does. Let the college coaches know they have some worthy kids, and the coaches will come to the non prime time games. JMO.
ps-I happen to know a kid who got lots of attention after about a dozen phone calls were made by AP on his behalf.

If the scouts are so willing to attend games at any time of the day, then why do the Dirtbags always coincidentally have the convenient game times?

If AP believes (like you guys do) that the scouts will come see his talented players even at 4:00 AM if they have to, then why on earth do they always seem to play at the big college fields at the most convenient times?

I'm not talking about the scouts who are there to look for a certain player that they are already aware of. Sure, they'll come watch that player at whatever gametime the player may have. I'm talking about the majority of the scouts, who are there simply observing the tournaments that weekend and hoping to find a good player that they weren't aware of coming in. These guys arent going to sit out there alllllllllll day. Some will, but there is a higher probability of being seen at the Friday night and Saturday afternoon games at the college fields. Which is why the Dirtbags are always scheduled to play these games.

    Do

you actually believe that a college coach jumps in his car , drives all the way to a tourney and flops down at the college field at a prescribed time and "hopes" he sees the guys he wants to see? Do you think they might plan a little better than that? Do you think it might just be possible they are there to see specific kids they have a specific need for? Do you think they do a little home work before they go to an event like this?

Phone calls from reliable sources. Emails from reliable sources. Conversations with reliable sources. Players they have seen during the course of the hs season that they want to follow into the summer. Players they saw last fall they want to follow into the summer season. Players they have seen at camps the previous fall and summer. Teams that have players on them that have already verballed to their school. Etc etc.
Teams that have a track record of having outstanding players on them. Teams that have a player on it that they have ID through one of the sources above.

Teams want to get the best players possible because #1 they want to win. And #2 they want to get the college coaches out to see that kid play which will also get all their other players looked at. The more of these guys you have the more coaches you are going to have at your games.

Have you ever been to East Cobb? There will be over 300 college coaches at this event. There are three fields backed up to one another. There will be three games going on at the same time. There will be 300 coaches watching one game and none watching the other two. Why? Its not about what time you play or where you play. Its about who is playing.

If you were running a tourney that your team was in when and where would you play? Would you play at the locations and times that your players wanted to play and the locations and times that were most convienant for you? Would you try and accomodate the college coaches request if there were any? Or would you put your team where certain members of TBR wanted them to be?

When the Dirtbags go to East Cobb or Jupiter or play in a Hurricans tourney etc etc they play where and when they are told to play. And guess what happens? The scouts actually show up. Its amazing isnt it?

The good coaches that do this for the right reasons and are a credible source of information to the college coaches dont have any problem getting college coaches to see their kids play. Regardless of where they play or what time.
