We have to believe that the coaches in the conference (take the PAC-6,for instance) are honest in their stats. We are reminded only to nominate players we feel are truly deserving. We felt like we came up with a team that was most deserving. We have coaches that dont just put up names to have a bunch of all conference players, they put up players most deserving, then explain why they were nominated.

We've seen some stats get modified to protect a few. Stats can be extremely subjective.

    Stats and Eligibility Verification

I realize the NCHSAA doesn't have the funding for impartial scorekeepers or the ability to administer residence verification for athletes but why not "assign" these tasks to other schools in your conference.

For Example: Team A plays Team B - Team C provides the scorekeeper....and so on throughout the season. That same day Team C is playing Team D but there's a representative from Team A there keeping score instead of good ole "homecookin."

Same thing with eligibility. Team A puts their documents together and meets with the people from Team B to present their "eligiblity." Team B approves or challenges and so on. While this is going on, Team B is preparing their documents to present to Team C.

Better be fair with the scorekeeping AND the eligibility because what goes around comes around. That same school you are scorekeeping for or doing the "initial" eligibility verification for may be doing yours next year!

As for eligibility, next year schools will make available their eligibility sheets with other members of their conference.

As for stat verification, You train somebody to do them and you act with intgrity as to keeping them true and accurate. I can assure you the NCHSAA will not pay money to verify stats.

Exactly! Then you send that "trained" person to someone else's game in the conference and they send you their "trained" guy in return. Otherwise keep living with guys hitting .600 with 15-20 "infield" hits. LOL.....

That would not work unless they are paid and with $ being tight I dont see that happening. Coaches should check behind stat keepers anyway, at least my asst and I do and we rehash the game with the stats after every game. OUrs are as accurate as I know how to do them.

Well IMO those awards are nice and say that a kid has got the attention of somebody. But I think the only way to judge is to see them play. I read somewhere that a scout can tell if a player can run or not just simply watching them walk.

Not to hold Conference awards to a lesser God, just that you can tell more about the players by watching them play. This probably goes with out saying. No it does, should, go without saying. Well anyway this is just an opinion and like back sides everyone has one.

And you know what? The players know this. I believe that they are much smarter than we think they are.

Here's a quote, "Why do I hustle? Because I never know when someone is watching me play." I think a little guy in Atlanta said that. Or something like that.
