Saying his english skills were "limited" is giving him a lot of credit lol. I played with Maikol all four years and he is an amazing ball player but I will always remember him as a friend above all else.

I remember this about Maikol and its the first time he ate in our cafe at LC so i've got to share it...

I think it was the first day we were all there at school and so a bunch of us decided to go down to the cafe and eat. We all went up there and got some food and went and sat back down at our table and talking and getting to know people. A couple of guys got done eating and went up there and got another plate of food and came back. Once a couple of guys did that Maikol had a puzzled look on his face. We asked him what was wrong and he asked "we can get more food or not" and we told him that you can get all the food you want. He got up and made a dash for the meal line and he ended up eating 4 plates of food that day. We complained a lot about the food being bad but I think he honestly never once complained and was thankful that he could eat this much.

If anyone knew him and know what he has done for his family back home in Venezuela would really show you that he is one of the best all-round people I have ever met. His family was from a poor part of Venezuela and he came here with only 1 bag I think and it's sad but his parent's never had the opportunity to see one of the best players in the country never play ball. It's kinda funny but instead of him bringing home one bag he has another bag in his hand to carry all these awards he has won the past four years. I will miss that kid and I hope of all the players drafted he makes it to the big league because I have never met a more deserving person than Maikol.

Now that the draft is over, I guess we move into who is signing and who isn't. I read one of the Mt Airy papers yesterday and it had an article about Aaron King and it said he's going back to Surry for another year. He wanted to be drafted in the top 5 rounds, and he was 7th round.

BUT, this article was written after day 1, when he wasn't drafted. He says he wants $160k, and teams called and asked if he'd sign for 7th or 8th round money and he told them no. Maybe the Giants plan to offer him what he wants. Who knows yet, but here's the article

UPDATE: Just read in the Mt Airy News that King does plan to sign with the Giants:

    Congratulations to him!

    Also, one draftee to add:

Nick Conaway, RHP, formerly of South Stokes High School, originally went to Oklahoma, but it lists no school on baseball america. 23rd rd, #705 San Diego Padres.

Perhaps his father, who is a member, can give us some insight. I hope he gets all he can...he's worth it!

I remember last year when David Mailman was drafted in the 7th round (I think). People said there was no way he would sign. What people didn't know is that he signed for 2nd round money. It's whatever a club decides your worth to them.

    Updated my post. Read above...

From everything I've heard, as I've not been able to see him pitch, is he's got a ton of ability and will do well. Good luck to him and congratulations! The articles on him paint a picture of a class act.

Really suprised no Chad Flack. I know he is a senior, but he can run a little, and is a great clutch hitter.
