I really do not see where being a senior would preclude a player from being drafted. A senior has no leverage in contract negotiation, but for MLB clubs, that's a good thing. I also think comparing stats of a major DI player to that of a DII player is like comparing apples and oranges.

Interesting ? No, just common sense.

If you are uncertain, check the draft boards.

Yea its a great thing, that means saving money and signing him out of FA for $3,000 dollars instead of giving him a contract for $30,000 dollars. Why draft a guy you know will sign for next to nothing instead of a high school guy that has potential and will sign because he is tired of school.

I would also like to understand how you think a D1 and D2 player is like comparing oranges and apples?

It's all politics and it's a shame because they think the only talent is at D1 and small schools get the shaft even though i've played with and seen other teams that would really surprise people in NC and prove that the difference between D1 and D2 is very little difference if any for smaller D1 schools.

Since when is 40th round money 30,000 ?
A FA can be signed by any team so he actually has more leverage.
If you want to try and convince me that DII pitching is anywhere near DI pitching, fire away.

You said this: "I also think comparing stats of a major DI player to that of a DII player is like comparing apples and oranges."

This has nothing to do with the pro draft. If so, then Adam Warren (22-1 for a 3 time Omaha bound team) wouldn't have gone in the 44th round. Comparing stats rarely enters into the equation whether a D1, mid level D1 or DII gets drafted.

If you are saying there are more pro prospects at D1, then yeah...that's common sense.

Although there are some very good ones at the D2 level, the pitching is the biggest difference between the two.....and I'm speaking in general. There are certainly some teams at the D2 level that can more than hold their own.

My point was you can sign a HS kid for $30,000 or even less instead of giving a contract to a senior. Nobody owes any player anything and a bad season means that you have to sign for whatever they give or hang up the cleats. He can go play independent ball but there is also a chance that he will never go anywhere.

Go to a D2 game and see the pitching. Not to brag but our D2 team ERA was 2.73 and that was playing in SAC and playing teams with very good winning percentages. It's a lot easier to get kids to come play D1 ball but with so many traveling teams and many more kids playign teh difference between both D1 and D2 is very minor.
