First and foremost in travel ball we play strictly ASA showcase and I have been extremely impressed with the officiating, until this weekend in Rock Hill with one particular umpire. Runner on first and second with 2 outs ball hit to our ss runner brushes the ss glove as she is fielding the ball causing her to bobble the ball. No call. Asked the field judge and she said there was no contact. Asked our ss if there was contact she said yes then asked if we could get help from the plate umpire and field judge said no. I did not push it any further. Between innings asked the plate umpire (off the record what he saw) Field judge came up and wanted to know if we were talking about the play. I asked how she defined interference she responded "look it up in the rulebook".Plate umpire then answered if there is contact 99% of the time it is called. Field judge then said " contact was made after the ss had made the play on the ball.I responded "you said there was no contact!" Then field judge said I would be ejected if I "said another word" I have coached for 12 years with some questionable calls and never been threatened with ejection. I treat umpires with respect and on questionable calls calmy ask for an explanation but this umpire was very unprofessionable and evidently threatened by any questions on her calls. 2 runs scored that inning and we lost by 1 run. Should a coach ignore this type of ump or make a stand?

    Black or White

This is not a grey area.....

Contact by offensive player with defensive player fielding or attempting to field a batted ball is interference and an immediate dead ball ...
runner is out, batter awarded first base.

It would not be a play you would appeal..... field ump has to call it when it happens.

If the ump stated there was contact, and refuses to call it. then it is a protestable call...

Stop the game and make them get it right.. Home plate ump should have stepped in if field ump admitted to contact...

    Not a judgement call.

Umpires with attitudes should be restricted to baseball. Or better yet send 'em to soccer... no decisions to make there.

We had one in the 3rd round of the high school playoffs. This guys was unbelieveable. We had him 2 other times that I can remember the last several years and when I saw him coming I new our game was in trouble. This guy wants everyone in the park to know that he is there. He strutts on the field and all during the game. He showboats while making calls and even when calling balls and strikes. He wears these hugh sunglasses even if the sun is not shining. He was mister cool and hollywood. This guy is so stuck on himself that he does not belong on any kind of ball field umpiring anything. He is to busy looking cool that he can not call the game. This guy really had an attitude!!!

    That is Larry...

"Hollywood" is what I (we) all call him, to his face. He thinks its funny....I made the statement to him last year that there was no way he was married, cause he and his ego couldn't fit in the same house, let alone with another woman, but he said yea, he was married and had a couple of kids to boot...I asked him if he had a full length mirror, he said yea, a couple....we just smiled and went our seperate ways. He always finds me when he is at our place, does some basketball too...

I thought the game was about the players and not the umpires. This guy takes the cake. I guess it would not be all that bad if he could call a game.

    UMPS WITH ATTITUDES

This is what you will encounter 90% of the time when playing travel ball. The umpires in question are BRED to be the way they are. In most cases the female officials, "most" not all, walk on the field with a chip on their shoulders, feeling like they have to prove something to everybody. I know the UIC that was over that tournament and if the female officials would follow her lead when comes to attitude, thinmgs would be better. As for Hollywood, what else can be said. I stated in several other threads in the past, he's a joke to the game. But no one will tell him he has to go. I know for a fact that he has been banned from other sports for his actions, some very distasteful.
