Sounds like Michigan football if you ask me. But the reason you schedule a team you "think" you can beat is in order to pick up a win and rotate a lot of guys in and out of the game.

Hey, I'm NOT suggesting that D2 generally is close to D1. That would be silly. But I stand by my opinion that Mt Olive THIS SEASON (on a weekend) had better pitching than Wake Forest, who finished 3rd in their division. And their hitting was close. This Mt Olive team was exceptional.

Ok UK7Dook3, we respect that thought.

Now, my question to you is, whether their pitching is better and their hitting is close or whatever you think the case may be:

In a season, if Mt Olive and Wake Forest both played an ACC schedule every weekend, 3 game series's against some of the top teams that America has to offer. who would finish higher in the standings, Mt Olive, or Wake Forest?

    Regional rankings

I don't have a dog in this fight, being a NCAA D3 softball coach, but everyone's yearly goal is to get to their respective NCAA regional..

If you don't earn the AQ, then an at-large bid is all that is left...
Playing out of division ( doesn't matter, playing up or down) or out of region will negatively impact your regional ranking..
Doesn't matter if you win or lose.. You don't get any ranking consideration for those games..
Every win against an in-region team helps your cause on selection Sunday.

I realize I sound deluded...but this year (and this year only) I think Mt Olive is equal or better. I base that on my eyesight, which admittedly is biased. But I offer as factual support that Mt Olive had their 3 weekenders drafted...plus shortstop & 1st base. And (other than their All American catcher), the rest of the lineup are underclassmen.

I know, it sounds silly even to me to say this. But that's the beauty of sports, huh? I have permission to believe that Henry was better than Bonds...Jimmy Brown was better than fill-in-the-blank, and Oscar was equal to MJ.

I was just making sure that you legitimately believe Mount Olive is better than Wake Forest.

Wake forest beat Clemson (twice), Virginia (twice), UNCG (twice), FSU, Coastal Carolina, UNC-Charlotte, Pepperdine...

I couldn't imagine a team like Mt Olive getting wins like this.

Mount Olive lost games to "Bryant", "Coker", "USC Aiken", etc..

I couldn't see a team like Wake Forest losing games like this

But like you said, everyone has their opinion and that's what the forum is for.

I went to see USC Aiken play once this year, and I am sorry, but it I was not impressed at all. They made alot of errors on simple grounders, and didn't have very good plate disapline. However it was just one game, So I can't judge a 40+ game season on just that. I am just saying..the team I saw play that night looked very below average, and would get blown away by ACC competition...and the fact that they had a 33.3 winning % vs the best team in DII scares me. Wake Forest is beating teams like Coastal Carolina, UVA, Clemson, etc..while Mount Olive is dropping games to teams like USC Aiken.

OurPasttime713, your last post made me smile. Sounds like a slam dunk because I can't 'imagine' those scenarios either.

But here was Wake Forest's record against North Carolina schools this season:
    UNC - 0-1
    NC St - 0-3
    UNCG - 1-0
    UNC Ash - 0-1
    UNC Wil - 0-1
    UNC Char - 0-1
    Appy St - 0-2
    High Pt - 1-1
    Davidson - 1-1
    Elon - 0-2

So WF this season versus 10 NC Universities: 3-13. Oh yea, they only played the Tar Heels once (in the ACC tournament).

Oh yea, they swept Duke. But the Devils aren't D1, are they? (Makes them 6-13)

By the way, 8 months ago I couldn't 'imagine' Gardner Webb beating a school that will remain anonymous on the road. Pardon me while I regurgitate. I can't believe I just brought that up.:Reagan-hittin-head-

First off, Wake was 2-0 vs UNCG, not 1-0

Second off, Duke won 37 games this season, and was 26-0 against all non-ACC opponents, so I'm pretty sure they count as Division I. Duke is another team who's players top to bottom are simply superior to Mount Olive's.

Your Kentucky Wildcats losing to Gardner Webb in basketball is different. First off, Kentucky is washed up. Second off, Gardner Webb still has D1 athletes. Third off, that was one game, and we're talking about whether or not Mount Olive could outdo Wake Forest for A WHOLE SEASON.
