Interesting......isnt one of the Cubs coaches an associate scout for the Pirates? You may want to ask your other Cubs coaches to remind you!

The guy obviously isn't a coach for the Cubs. He's said that numerous times.

But hey, lets pretend that he IS a coach for the Cubs. Lets just say he is. If so, it still proves the point I'm trying to make. Coaches of these other teams do have problems with their team never getting a chance to play at prime time in the big venues.

Now, back to reality. The scouts (like piratesscout) also have a problem with nobody but the Dirtbags playing in prime time in the IMPACT tournaments. Game times obviously do effect the amount of a particular kids' games that scouts can see. There's a reason its called "prime time," because these are the most conveniently viewed games.

    Winthrop Tournament

Somebody sent me the tournament schedule for Winthrop tourney this weekend. Seems they have the teams play Thursday and Friday to set the seeding for the weekend. Then they play a single elimination tournament on Saturday and Sunday.

This would seem to eliminate any disagreement about who gets to play the best times and locations - let the teams play determine this by the seeding they earn.

Not sure if this is the best alternative, but it seems a cool format.

I've read this thread several times over the last week to 10 days before I responded. A couple of comments.

AP and Impact run their events and can set them up how they choose. If you disagree, don't play. Here is what I have noticed about Impact events. (And no, my son does not play for Impact. He is with the Heat.)The Impact events appear to have more colleges attending than other events. They seem to have a good selection of teams playing. The Dirtbags do seem to get nice time slots of the featured fields on Fri and sat. but it's AP and Impact's tourney. That's his call. It's still a good event. Some people complained that the DB's got 5 games at the APP showcase while everyone else got 4. Maybe that happened because AP needed some team to play 5 so another team would get their 4 games. If I was AP's shoes I would have done the same thing and I bet if anyone else were in those shoes they would have done the same thing.

I was at the last one in Boone. Boston College was there. I met the guy. A Boston College guy doesn't show up at every event.

I will say at a Heat run event this year at LR, everyone played at LR and everyone played at St. Stephens. The Heat 09 team even got a late Sunday game. So the intention was to treat everyone the same. Even the host team got some bad time slots and played 2 games on each field.

I don't know AP. I know who he is, I speak when I see him and he has always been friendly. But the way I look at this is maybe we should be thankful for Impact, whether you play for the DB's or not. A few years ago there were 1-3 teams across the state. Now we have 30 plus teams calling themselves showcase. If not for the success of the DB's and others, maybe we would not have so many other teams which give so many others a chance to play.

Being a golfer I compare it to Arnold Palmer and the PGA Tour. My granddaddy played the tour and he saw first hand what Arnold Palmer (another AP, just a coincidence) how Palmer created interest and the Tour grew and everyone benefited. Before Palmer tour pros did something else to make money. The Tour had small purses. You couldn't make a good living at it. Palmer always got the best tee-times but nobody said much because he made the sitaution better for everyone else. It's a little like Tiger Woods but on a much smaller scale. Tiger gets the best times and gets catered to but everone realizes they are playing for millions more in prize money due to him. Not saying all this is due to Andy but I think you have to give some credit.

I'm not saying Andy Partin is even close to Arnold Palmer. No chance. Palmer is a legend. However I can see where the success of the DB's has encouraged the growth of other teams which gives more kids an opportunity. I can't name all the teams but I'm pretty sure most of these teams did not exist before Impact/DB's; Heat, Megastars, Prepstars, NC Baseball Academy, Canes, SCP organization, Upstate teams, CBC, and many others I have not mentioned. Would this growth have come without Impact/DB's succes? Maybe, maybe not. We'll never know.

I feel like many others that the DB's may get some favorable time slots however when I look at the big picture I'm grateful. More kids are playing baseball and getting opportunites. Just my 2 cents.
