at what age group is it appropriate to scream at your team? I'm thinking teenagers?

I notice in 8U and 10U travel ball alot of yelling going on by both male and female coaches.

Isn't the point of it- that you want them to want to return? Its not like 4 games in one day, missing out of fun things at home, and 100 degree heat is not enough to wear down a girl.

they know when they screw up, yelling won't help

agree, yelling doesnt help the issue outside of yelling at an outfielder to get into a different position, that cant be helped. it comes down to different styles of coaching and coaching experience. some coaches believe that the only way a kid will learn is to yell at them. if that's what you believe, ask yourself this: would i learn more if someone came and talked to me about a problem i have, or when someone yells at me in public? older girls just tune you out and i'm afraid the reason they tune you out is due to past experiences of being yelled at. jmho

Metro- given your background, I believe you are in for a big adjustment. But one thing occurs that will be nostalgic for you. The ole Providence cheers from the players in the dugout. :REDanceBanana008:

    JMO...

Most of the girls on teams where the coach is screaming at them for their mistakes on 8U & 10U will never give 12U and above a chance!
Girls are just plain different than boys on this issue! If you yell at a young girl and you make her cry, you might as well not say anything else, because anything said after the girl is crying is never heard anyway! Boys are screamed at from the time they start little league, so they kind of develop a thick skin to it! Girls aren't the same! Their skin doesn't get that thick, until later (usually after the hormones have had time to set up residency, LOL)!
Parents should be there to know right from wrong for these girls, and it is not right for a coach to screaming at players at that age! There is no need for it! This is supposed to be FUN!

DD has played for yelling & quiet passive coaches. Sure am glad TB coach is in the middle. He has positive energy that the girls feed off of. Old saying: Girls have to feel good to play good; Boys have to play good to feel good. Says enough.

    Agreed but...

Guys in general have to be yelled at or they won't respect your authority, we're too dumb and hard headed. At least that's what my wife yelled at me today.
