Yep and NJ as well. There are many states that are pushing to do the same thing. It's funny that the Governor vetoed this bill. I don't know why he would even get involved.

    not softball

Quick comment on the softball reference. Most if not all of fastpitch softball is already dominated by the pitcher. Competitive levels have mostly low-scoring games...........so don't really think there would be much support for wooden bats in fastpitch.
If so, I think you'd have to consider several other rules changes in combination w/ the wooden bats, such as outfield fences pushed back and pitchers distance pushed back.

Sorry this is a little off subject.

Again Coach27 you hit it on the head. The other day I saw a college summer wood bat league game. The defense for one of the teams had committed 9 innings through 7 innings! (ggrrrrrrr!!!) It looked to me that the infield could not adjust to the wood bat. It just looked like they where not getting a jump on the ball. Looked as if they where back on their heals waiting for those rockets from the metal bats.

Also some of the hitters where just knocking the crap out of the ball only to fly out. Bat control looked to be limited to some degree.

I was thinking hmmmmm... there is a significant difference in metal bat baseball and wood bat baseball....2 very different forms of the game on defense and offense.

Many folks on here already know this. For me it was a big eye opener.

I certainly advocate using wood bats for hitting instruction but I never thought about the significant impact metal bats have on defensive playing and positioning. JMO

I agree with Coach27 that wood bat baseball is a more purer form of the game.

    Fastpitch

I don't know if Id get rid of the metal bats in softball. However what you mention about mound distances might actually lengthen the game of fastpitch. I think that fast pitch is a quick moving game. It looks real great. Game moves along. Pitching dominates!! Not many HR's hit. An exciting game.

Baseball could evolve back into an exciting game with wood bats. JMO
