Is it too late?

Son has battled through injury during critical "visibility periods" of So/Jr years to be all conference in both Jr. and Sr. years in a very good 2A conference. Excellent student with 4.5/4.0 GPA. Roster limits have impacted him as he had two contingent offers from D1 schools assuming certain kids were drafted and signed. Well as his luck has ran, in both situations the kids decided to come back for senior years. MIF with 6.9 speed. Strong Bat, Good Glove, Improving arm stregth. Strong desire to play even if money not involved. His school was not picked up by any legion programs, few 18U playing opportunities so is he out of options?

Appreciate any advice.

 

My 2 cents worth

I would act fast and send an email to all schools that your son would realistically like to attend. It needs to be generic with your son's last 2 years (obviously All-Conference stat years) stats, his relevant GPA, SAT or ACT scores, any other baseball experience including All-Star games, Legion Clubs, travel clubs, etc.

I would list his desire to play ball, high school coaches name and number for any behind the scenes contact that may occur and let your HS coach know what you are doing...maybe even email (cc") him on any correspondence to any school. The emails would need to go to the recruiting coordinator at the school and maybe even "cc" the other asst. coaches as they may have need in their specific coaching area.

You can go to the NCAA website and get the Div. 1, 2 & 3 schools in each state. Find the school that you want to try and then go to their website and get the email addresses. We are blessed in this area with a lot of opportunities, so I would say that there is still a chance for playing ball. My fingers are crossed for your son!

 

barkley- were those two schools the only schools that expressed interest? Does he mind going out of state?

Sorry but I am extremely cautious about self serving promotion of a player - especially my son.

We are in the Raleigh area. He is open and in fact interested in out of state schools. He had offer to walk on at St. Johns with considerable academic money but with no roster spot assurance this was not a school of much interest. He had "interest" from MAC, Big Ten conference schools but no offers - his injury kept him from summer and fall baseball last year and as we all know very few kids get seen during high school. Four year varsity starter, senior yr. hit .444, 31 runs, 32rbis, 7 triples, 4 hrs, with a slugging % of .840. Good hitter, speed, some power, good glove/quick hands, minus arm that he continues to strengthen. Primary position is 2ndbase.
