What format? Springer? Barbara Walters? I think I am more of the Andy Ronney type. http://www.cbsnews.com/sections/60minutes/rooney/main3419.shtml He is my hero. I will question the question and requestion the question. But, I need Braves permission. The Translator may not be able to be accessed everywhere. And it would be needed. :operator::operator:

What potential loss of scholarship money are you referring to?

LCLefty, I'm sure he coud unleash some cuss words and insults to me but I don't think he could make enough good points to stay in the discussion. I'm not impressed by acting tough on the computer, I want somebody who can simply debate on the actual topic in a respectful manner, like you're supposed to. Anybody can talk junk but when I said he "crashed" referring to Plate Dad's metaphor, I meant that he had nothing relevant left to say about the subject matter.

You are right though this was a great thread and this is the type of thread that helps readers become more informed about different things.

And Plate Dad, no need for the bump and run. I just did some simple drafting until I found myself in the front of the pack and cruised to the checkered flag

    A lot of topic.

The reason I was asking was because I was a little confused. From what I have been lead to believe - if a College takes a risk on a low performing student and he does not make it grade wise in college, that school will have to forfeit the Scholarship money offered to that student the next year. He can not be replaced. Again I may be confused and probably the wrong thread to ask this question. What the heck, this thread has gone every other direction anyway.

from a poster on InsideCarolina (who seems to be very knowledgeable) scholarships haven't been reduced but the way they are used has been changed.

Teams still have 11.7 scholarships available - but now (next year?) EVERRY player on the roster has to have at least a .25 scholarship. This basically means no more walk ons - and may reduce the scholarships to some players who were getting .5 , .75 or a full ride (does anybody, even the best get a full ride?). It seems like it may have the impact of reducing rosters.

But then again I thought I had read somewhere (maybe here?) they were increasing that 11.7 a little also. If any of the above is wrong whoever knows for sure please correct me.

sorry, but roster limits do require walkons. Final cut on NCAA emphasis on academics is 33on roster with 27 on a minimum of 25% scholly. Invited walk-ons and quality walkons in general will become a hot commodity.

THis also prevents the practice of vacumming (sp) talent..., whereas several higher profile schools (no name, no blame) have had a blue ton of talent on their rosters prior to cut date, with no intention of really using the kid unless he blossomed quickly into a stud... effectively vacumming up all the talent, just so other schools couldn't have the kids.

Dang, the more I look at my numbers, the more confused I get...if I didn't get the 33/27/25 right, please correct me quickly....

Max roster of 35. Max 27 on baseball money. Min of 25% baseball money to anyone getting it. Still 11.7 max for fully funded.

What this means is if you get a dime it must be at least 25%.

Two universities in the SEC have petitioned the NCAA to increase the # of scholarships in Div 1 baseball from 11.7 to 14.7.

Everything I have read on this proposal doesn't give it much chance of approval. Most schools that don't have powerhouse baseball programs already do not fully fund up to the maximum 11.7 scholarships (some may have only 1/3 or 1/2 of that) , so increasing to 14.7 would only serve to make the rich even richer in competing on the field. So the proposal is not expected to pass.
