You have been reported to the Official State fan club. The Master at Arms will be visiting you to strip you of all your State gear and colors. You may be requested to move also.

I'm a lifelong ABC fan who's headed to UNC for school in the fall. As much as I've grown up hating Carolina, I do admit that I wouldn't waste my time rooting against a school if they weren't good in just about everything. In my opinion, jealousy is the whole reason anyone hates any particular team - whether it's Duke basketball, UNC basketball, the New York Yankees, etc.

I tried to keep that in mind and not let the fact that I've always hated the Heels come in to play when I made my own college decision. When you get to Chapel Hill, you can certainly see that there's many things to be envious of. It's a great campus, in a good location, that has a great academic reputation, with great athletic facilities, and an athletic program that has as much success as any other in the country.

Don't get me wrong, I certainly agree with the comments One Putt made about the arrogance that sometimes goes along with some UNC fans. But I also see what Coach 27 is saying.

As an incoming freshman, this College World Series is my first experience at being a Heels fan. To be honest though, in past years I haven't really even pulled against the baseball team once they got to Omaha. Like someone already said, the players on the team are almost all from NC and I've grown up playing with and against them. Their success is a statement for how good baseball is in our area.

So with that being said, converting to a Tarheel baseball fan isn't too big of an obstacle. Basketball might be a different story, but hey, with Lawson, Ellington, Green, and Hansbrough all coming back, this isn't a bad time to hop on the bandwagon!

Anyways, Go Heels tonight. Its gonna be a good one, LSU is tough.

    Its funny

but I remember the recruiting visit I went on with my son to Duke. Let me just say you will not find a nicer group of coaches anywhere. Coach Boggs , Snedeker and McNally are first class guys. I was excited about the recruiting visit and so was my wife. He had already recieved an offer and they wanted him to come and watch a practice and then attend the FSU - Duke basketball game. Well my son is the kid at 7 years old that told me "I am going to Carolina and I am going to play baseball there." The same kid that even at that age would beg for me to take him to Sunday home games and he would want to get there before bp. And he refused to leave until the stands were empty. In other words he wanted to be the first fan there and the last one to leave. I can still hear him say "This is the best stadium in the ACC.". They have the best this and the best that. So you can imagine how excited he was when I "told" him we were going to take the visit.

We get to the practice and he is about as interested in watching it as I would be a dance recital. But he whispers in my ear. "I hope we have great seats for the game." I ask him why. "I can't wait to see Thornton slam all over McRoberts in person." I then go on to tell him that he doesnt need to be pulling for FSU inside Cameron.

Well we get the tickets and we are right on the court , sitting right beside the FSU bench floor level. Well FSU goes on to beat Duke and during a decisive run by FSU he can not help himself he jumps up and says "Yeah take it too them." All the fans around us already know he is there on a baseball recruiting visit. You can imagine the looks and comments we got from behind us. After the game Coach McNally says "I am sorry Jeff. I hate you had to come on a day we didnt get a win." You can only imagine the look on my sons face.

I will say that before the recruiting deal was all over Jeff had nothing but great things to say about the coaches. Especially Coach Boggs. He is a first class guy.

I will be pulling for UNC hard. Not just because its UNC. But look at the roster. These are the same boys that we have all watched play in AAU over the years. The same boys we have watched during the hs season in NC. And the same guys we got the chance to see play during the summer. They are not only representing UNC but the "State of NC" baseball. I would feel no differently if it was NC State , Duke , Wake , Charlotte , Wilmington , Elon , etc etc.

And I can tell you Coach Fox , Holbrook , Forbes and McKay are four of the best guys you will ever want to meet in your life. There is no arrogance in that group at all. They are first class people that do it the right way with the right type of guys.

Congrats on coming to the Hill. I'm a student there. Need to know anything, send me a message. I seem to be a lot like you: Played against these guys all of my life and now am watching them on tv.

    Game rained out

Heels up 2-0 bases loaded one out in the top of the first. The rain came and it did not let up. They will resume play tomorrow at 6:08.
