Having played in the ASA State Tournament now, for three years, I have to say that I would vote for it returning to Cary next year.

The fields at Mallard Creek (I cannot comment on other fields, as I did not see them) were not in good shape. The outfield grass had not been mowed. The fields were not lined during the course of play. The backstops are out of date and dangerous. The trash cans were not emptied during the tournament until they had overflowed to the point that there was as much trash on the ground around them as in them.

When you first arrived at the gate, you were given something to hang in your window to tell thieves that there was nothing in your car worth breaking into and advised to make sure no valuables were left in your car as they were subject to being broken into.

There was an assualt in the parking lot as a team's Head Coach sucker punched a parent of a player on another team in a premeditated act. The victim and the Coach were both asked to leave the field. One returned in disguise that night, both were there Sunday. This sort of behavior, I believe, affected everyone present in some way, shape or form and should not have been treated this lightly by the ASA, in my opinion. Shortly after the incident, the two teams involved had to face each other on the field. Somehow, this does not seem appropriate to me.

We saw many more college coaches the previous two years in Cary when 16u and 18u were at the same venue than we did this past weekend at the 16u locale.

    ASA State

NC ASA thought it was time to have our ASA State in the Charlotte area this year. We are growing in all age divisions.
We had significant increase in entries from previous years. We were scrambling to find fields to play on in or around Charlotte. The Mallard Creek folks were very accomodating in allowing us to use their facility in a short notice situation.
Some of the other sanctioning bodies, according to the various Parks and Rec. Depts. in and around Charlotte, book the fileds, regardless whethter they plan to use them or not. We will make a concerted effort, in the future, to make sure all fields are viable to accomodate the increase in team entries. We sincerely appreciate your support of NC ASA and will do every thing in our power to make sure the ASA State tournaments are the premier tournaments they are supposed to be.
As far as the incident, people have a tendencey to carry things a bit too far at times. This will be dealt with accordingly as soon as all the facts are determined.

    What Does ???

What does having the tournament in Cary vs Charlotte stop two numbskulls from fighting in the parking lot, or a thief from stealing from an automobile? Testosterone and crime is everywhere !!! These issues having nothing to do with the location of a tournament. I have no problem with alternating locations though sense the cost of gas is not coming down anytime soon, and it would only be fair to do so. Both parents should have not been allowed in any park due to their behavior, Cary or Charlotte !!! As far as the college coaches viewing the tournament, just remember again the price of gas is twice as high as it was last year, so travel has been cut back !!!

    NCASA State Tournament-Renaissance

The only complaint I had about the 18u State tournament at Renaissance was they should of had score boards that worked and the bathrooms smelled bad (The urinals didn't even have water running through them).
The food was good and all the people seemed to be very nice.

What colleges recruit 16 yo's? They have enough on their plate recruiting 09's. Obviously if both events are held at the same venue it would appear to the parents of 16-U there was more scouts around.

Braves, believe it or not it seems to be happening earlier in softball than baseball. I have seen for myself major D-1 coaches watching 16u teams play. You would pretty much never see that happen in baseball.

Wow...Dawg, as you are a knowledgeable follower of both sports, why is this? It's not like they can speak to the players and parents?
