    I am just teasing you.

The deal is this, in the past and to this day, anytime the Charlotte 49ers recieved national press, the paper or tv would call them "UNC" or "NC Charlotte" or UNCC-Charlotte" or insert your variation.

The athletic dept was smart to realize this, and branded the name to end the confusion. The school is still officially called "the University of North Carolina at Charlotte" but the athletics are just "Charlotte 49ers." Its similar to what Virginia Tech has done. Virginia Tech is not the real name of the school.

Any true Charlotte 49er despises the association with Chapel Hill. That said, you don't have to have "UNC" in your school name to be part of the 16 school system: App is not UNCB, ECU is not UNCG....so having the "UNC" is not really necessary.

one last tidbit for you, under NC law, no state money can be used on athletics in the 16 university system. So all costs associated with the marketing come from student fees and private donations...aka...foundation dollars.

Please do not refer to UNC at Charlotte that way anymore. They will be changing their name soon to the University of Charlotte...thanks in advance. :satana:

    "23U" fastpitch idea

I think the best model for "23U" or adult fastpitch would be to convince those running regionals showcases to offer pool game for this age group. Most college players probably are interested in playing 4 to 5 weekends and most probably want a month off after the end of the season. Ray C and Ken B could run the brackets with their June and July tournaments. Many of these have summer jobs so they would need to play on the weekends. No need for elimination play; just 4/5 pool games on Sat/Sunday.

I know the argument is going to be that this might take slots away from showcase teams but, these events would likely draw 6-8 teams. I think it could be accommodated.

In general, I think these games should have a rec ball feel (Charlie, your team has for too many coaches!). These girls need a general manager to organize a roster, get some cheap uni's and write a lineup. Aside from that they can coach themselves.

    correct

This is the way to do it.....
No worries about fields, and all the other logistics.

You have a built in event with marketing, fields, umps, and a crowd.

My roster would certainly evolve into the 23U model...
Presently, it was a way to field a team the first weekend.
    Hey,,, girls just wanna play

We could end up with 6 teams..

    Charlotte /
    Triad /
    Triangle /
    Fayetteville-South County area /
NE NC - Southern Va. /
    Wilmington-Greenville- Coast /

This would keep cost low and provide the venues to play..
Also, would stay within all NCAA rules..

    Over 18

    Coach,

I read the post about a team from the potential drawing areas for teams. Add Goldsboro to the Wilmington/Greenville/coast area and that's the drawing area for our current Hurricanes team.

And to think I've been wondering what I could do with my summers in a couple of years when the girls age out of 18u!!!!!

I remember you talking about your team when my daughter played at St. David's this spring. Congrats on pulling it off.
