Don't let the name fool you

It is a "2010" tournament, but there are still plenty of age eligible 2009s playing this week.

    Clarification

Is this true? I thought a coach could not talk to a player until Fall of Junior year. Can't remember the exact date. Any info would be helpful.

Until July 1 between Jr. and Sr. year, a coach cannot talk to a player unless the player is on the coach's campus. The player can receive "camp invitation" type correspondence anytime. In September of Jr. year, he can begin to receive email or snail mail recruiting info. Player and parent can call coach on their own anytime. Player cannot receive live phone calls from coach until July 1 between Jr. and Sr. year, and even then can only receive one call per week. My son is between his Jr. and Sr. years right now. After July 1 between Jr. and Sr. year, a coach cannot talk in person with a player at a tournament/showcase until that player's team has been officially eliminated or the competition is completed.

Coaches can talk to your HS or travel coach and ask them to have the player call the college coach which happens frequently. As long as the player is doing the calling can happen anytime.

I'm in Ga. with The Lake Monsters. Bobby Talley stayed with the Jr. Legion team this week to stay in play-offs. His son, Trey, would be down here with us, but he and Will Bullock stayed to play Jr. Legion ball, where as my son Ryan, Dylan Newton , and Seth Lumpkins came to play down here in Ga. In Oxford, we started Jr. Legion ball about 3 years ago. We've never had any tradition or any program to follow in Oxford, so we're still fairly new to all this. WE started this Jr. Legion program in Oxford and nobody is more torn over what we should do than us. All our players, including the 2 from S. Granville and Granville Central have been playing with us since 9 yrs. old, and it hurts that we're not in 2 places at 1 time. Now down here in Ga., no one is more realistic than I about my son's future, but he has missed NO games ever for our teams in Oxford, 9 yrs. old and up. This is one of those experiences he did not want to miss, and he has no scouts looking at him, (and neither does a lot of other kids down here) but he wanted to experience it. We won our 1st game 8-1 in Ga., and our Jr. team is down 6-2 in the bottom of the 4th at Rocky Mount. We love Jr. Legion ball, and we hope that we are building a program for our community. But first and foremost, we love the kids we have playing for us. We made a decision to leave our team up there, and come with our other team down here, so there will always be a negative side to what we should have done (stay or go). We talked to our Jr. team about this and provided they had 9 players to stay, they just wanted to play. Everyone has an opinion on showcase or Legion, and I have neither, and am experiencing both. We love the community feel of Legion ball, but love the opportunities of competing against some of the best teams around as well. (Cubs, Dirtbags, Hurricanes, ect.), but also (Rocky Mount, Cary Bulls, & Cherryville in Jr. ball as well). Bottom line is, we're very fortunate to be able to have this problem and no one understands this more than me, but some are going to agree and some disagree.

you dont have to explain anything to anyone here. Enjoy this experience with your son and your players. You only get to do this one time with your kid so why not give it a shot and see what its all about. I know how much you have done for the kids in Oxford and the entire surrounding area. If it were not for guys like you many kids would have no where to play. Enjoy every minute of your time at East Cobb and best wishes from Granville County!

Games Games Games and more Games

I just got in from calling your legion game (final 12-2).......it is great to experience as much of the baseball world as you can SO i wish you and the team the best of luck. No one can forecast when two teams of the same players will have two games at the same time so there is nothing you can really do. Don't worry the sun will still come up tomorrow.
