Aw, Duke.....I love your posts. They are very informative. I was just kidding around.

The other person who took your head off in the other thread was wrong to do so. Keep posting!

One of my favorite memories is a tournament some years back.
The Challengers 14U and 16U were playing in their respective age groups. WndMillR was coaching the 14U. At some point during a break between games he allowed 3 of our starters to play a game with the 16U. The 14U were scheduled to play one of our strongest rivals. When I say rivals I mean RIVALS! It didn't take long (one pitch) before the rivalry erupted into a near riot.

After that first pitch the opposing coach announces to the umpire he is protesting because we are using illegal players. You guessed it--the 3 girls WndMillR allowed to play up a game. We were declared disqualified--but--WndMillR protested that the opposing team had one of our roster players on their bench. Someone whom he had let switch to their team but was still on his ASA roster. So both teams were almost disqualified.

After the teams exchanged a few words about each others' ancestors the officials worked out a compromise. Both teams could still play but our three starters who had played up were disqualified at the 14U level. Now, keep in mind, the opposing team was one of the best out there. WndMillR called a meeting and told the parents we didn't have much chance to win and if they wanted to call it a weekend, fine. The kids didn't want any part of not playing so we played minus those three starters. Bailey Cotton, catcher; Francis Crawford, shortstop; Jaimee Cassidy, 3rd base. All three top-notch players.

We had one kid almost in tears at 3rd base. She'd never played 3rd. The kids I remember from that game: Maria McGowan, pitcher; Crystal Jones, catcher; Kristen Burke, Kala Burke, Jamie Wellons, Lizzy Marcom. Can't recall the others (old age issue).

Anyway, to make a long story short. I've never seen kids more intense on winning a game. We won!!! Jaimee, Francis and Bailey got two championship trophies--the 16U won their division and the 14U won their division. Wish I had it on tape!!

I guess one of my favorite memories would have to be a game that the Carolina Comets was playing at Salisbury Community Park. Heather Allen (Father Jim Allen) was playing for the Comets when she hit a homerun. I have never seen a Dad so proud of their DD as Jim was of Heather. He was jumping up and down, and giving a high five to everybody. Heather had never before hit an over the fence homer in HS or TB. This was Heather’s last year of travel ball because of aging out.

    Pretty much bullet proof

Thanks; having been the classroom for over 30 years so I'm pretty much bullet proof. I do agree with "Braves" though (other thread) that these type of "attack" posts (not yours, I took it in pure jest, the one across the way) probably do discourage some from posting on this and similar forums. Sometimes I post things that I might not truly embrace totally just to provoke discussion . . . I do the same thing in the classroom . . . but never do I intend to offend.

.... please continue to post. Your threads are very informatative as I have a DD that is about to move in her dorm for her 1st year of college. She is a pitcher at a D1 school, so I have been soaking up alot of your info. I also enjoy your post on UCS. Keep up the good work, though some posts I may not totally agree on, but what kind of world would this be if everyone agreed on everything.

Ok i'll bite. 74 innings in 4 days for a 14 yr. old pitcher ewww....
dealing w/ shoulder problems from overuse now tread lightly especially if you're the parents. After walking out of the doctors this week I felt bad for those Sweet 16 weekends. Winning ain't worth all that.
