    Question

What is the difference between this tournament and the one in Moline?

    Here is the difference

The difference between the ASA A National tournament in Moline, and the Eastern Region National tournament in Salem, is that teams in Moline had to either win a Qualifier tournament, or win their state ASA tournament. The Carolina Cobras won a qualifier in Simpsonville, SC., and the Lady Blues qualified by finishing runnerup to the Carolina Cobras in the NC ASA State Tournament. ASA rules state that should a team win a qualifier or State tournament, and has already earned a berth to the Nationals, the team finishing in the runnerup position, can be awarded a bid to Nationals.

I do not believe that teams had to "qualify" in order to participate in the ASA Eastern Region National Tournament in Salem, VA.

    Hope that helps.

    Differences???

The ASA Eastern Nationals is one of 4 regional National tournaments held by ASA and are used as qualifiers to the next year's USA/ASA National. There are two berths available at the ASA Nationals.

The USA/ASA Nationals are the overall National tournaments. This is what we all try to qualify for and only a few succeed. These are very prestigious tournaments.

    Too Many

National Championships. I believe there should be one National championship and the rest are regional champions or qualifier champions.

There are many different organizations as to why so many nationals USSSA, PONY, NSA, WFC, etc.....someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the most prestigious the ASA? Isn't that the governing body of college?

    ASA/College

You are correct about the relative prestige of the softball sanctioning bodies. ASA is associated with Team USA (Olympic Team), however, none of these sanctioning bodies have any formal association with college softball. There are three sanctioning bodies for college: NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA (junior colleges).
