He also said we couldn't be in the late game. We playing first or second, which I take to mean both Area III teams are also. Just a guess.

The late game should be Gastonia against someone.

Has it been confirmed what field we are playing on in Wayne County?

We're playing at Southern Wayne. Take US 117 Alternate either at the start or at 117 where it says turn to go to Dudley. MOC must have begun work on its field because I didn't hear anything else from the coach.

You will need to give me your take on our PA guy. He did the game at MOC for the past two years, then decided he would be cramped in the SW press box after we had to temporarily move this season. That meant I had to endure the rigors of the cinder block structure. Now that we've made the state tournament, he wants to bring his show to Dudley.

They asked me would I be offended by having him back. I'm more valuable in the dugout anyway.

Surprised no one has posted on this game.

Wayne took a 9-4 lead into the ninth and went to Jay Rose, its fourth pitcher of the evening. Things got hairy fast.

Rose issued Wayne's first walk to leadoff batter Evan Harbinson. Drew Alford hit the first pitch to left for a home run. No problem, right?

Rose struck out the next batter on a called breaking pitch, but Brian Mills singled to center. Blake Murray fell behind 1-2 but hung in there for a walk, and Clayton brought the tying run to the plate.

Kyle Cummings, who relieved starter Justin Diener in the sixth, hit a groundball single to center to load the bases. Colin Parker punched a 1-2 curveball to shallow right for a run, and the tying runs were in scoring position.

Rose got ahead of Diener 0-2 and got a grounder to third, resulting in a force out at the plate. He ran the count on Jeff Citero to 2-2, then fanned him on a called curveball to end the game.

I have to write a story, so I'll be back.

    Area One

It would seem that the coaches and/or athletic officers should, in conjunction with the commissioner, be the ones making the rules (or changes), as they are the ones who have to live within those rules. All others are pretty much "disinterested third parties" and politicking for rule changes based solely on your team of support would not seem to be the "best way forward." As we all know, North Carolina American Legion Baseball "SEEMS" to live and breathe by the whims, desires and mandates of the baseball gods from the illustrious Area IV.

What makes you think the coaches or athletic officers are more "disinterested" than anyone else? I could cite you chapter and verse on some of the shenanigans a certain post north of us has pulled the past few years.

I believe that the Area I title series should alternate home field advantage. I would believe that even if we had the best regular season or playoff record every year.

The one thing all of us seem to agree on is that certain rules and procedures should be on paper at the start of the season. Then we don't have th fiasco we witnessed in Area III.

Area IV teams have played in or won 10 of the last 12 State Championship Games. You earn clout when you're there every year. You set the temperature on the thermostat in your own home, even when you have visitors don't you? You may adjust it just a little bit to make them comfortable, but you know they won't be staying long so you don't go too much out of your way.

    Luigi,

Do you have the breakdown of the years and who played in the State Championship?

    Thanks.
