Lady Blues advance on in winner's bracket.

The Lady Blues pulled out a tough 3 - 2, 8 inning victory against the Florida Knockouts tonight to advance on in the winner's bracket. Constance Orr pitched all 8 innings for the victory. Key play of the game was a huge double play, when the Knockouts tried to score their runner from second base on a base hit to right field with no outs. The throw from right nailed the runner trying to score, and then the subsequent throw from catcher to second base nailed the runner that had singled to right. It took the Blues exactly two pitches to win the game in the bottom of the eighth. On the first pitch, the Blues sacrificed the runner from second to third, and then the first pitch to the next batter was promptly hit between first and second for the game winner.

The Lady Blues will now play the Lemont Rockers DD from Chicago in a final eight bracket game in the winner's bracket, at 12pm on Saturday.

    GO NC!!!!!!!

    Thanks

    a

Just want to thank the Cobras for all their support at Nationals! We enjoyed watching their games as well! Great comeback in last inning yesterday, the Cobras never gave up.
NC can play with anyone as we have again proven in the Nationals, the Cobras and Blues have beaten every California team they have played and most have been lopsided victories. However, we also know many play Gold.
I want to give a big thank you to my young team for a great effort, the 2010 and 2011 kids have been a huge part of our success and the two 2009 kids have provided leadership along with the grads! Taylor Beam made a heady baserunning play yesterday to score our first run and then the winning run against the Knockouts and Kara Gordan scored from second on a past ball to give us a lead. Constance has pitched great and Taylor, Spaino, and Kelly have contributed innings. I could list all the kids as each have given a great effort, Jen and Kelly made great catches, Keeli hit a huge homerun, as well as Taylor Allen, Jess, Shaundee, Stephanie, Spaino, Erica, Austyn have stepped up their games during our run. Parents should be proud.

    Hats off to the Cobras!

Unfortunately, the Carolina Cobras were eliminated on Saturday evening with a 6 - 5 to the Arizona Hotshots - Davis. Down 6 - 1 going into the bottom of 7th, the Cobras rallied to score four, and had the winnig run on 2nd base with two outs, but could not get the tieing run to cross the plate.

The Carolina Cobras were an outstanding ball club, and have had tremendous success over the past several years. Great job Charlie, Donnie, Scottie and Terry. We wish all the young ladies from the Cobras much success in their future endeavors, whether softball related or not.

The Lady Blues appreciate your support at our games (Todd, Donnie P., Terry W., etc.), and thanks to everyone from the Cobras that gave us all the well wishes to continue forward in the tournament.

    GO NC!!!!

Lady Blues finish 7th at Nationals.

Well, the magical ride for the Lady Blues at this years ASA 18U National Tournament came to an end on Saturday, with a couple of tough losses, sandwiched around a victory. The Blues ended up taking 7th place out of 121 teams.

At 12 noon, the Blues lost to the Lemont Rockers (Chicago, IL) 5 - 4 when the Rockers scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to break a 4 - 4 tie. In the top half of the seventh, the Blues scored two runs to tie the game, and had the bases loaded with only 1 out. Unfortunately, the Blues hit into a double play (3rd to home to 1st) to end the inning. The Lemont Rockers went to win their next winner's bracket game by defeating the Elyria Sun Dogs 2 - 0, and are now in the Championship game of the winner's bracket.

After their loss to the Rockers, the Blues went into the loser's bracket and beat a tough Georgia Challengers team 6 - 4, earning the right to play the Alabama Pride, and losing in another tough game, 4 - 2. In this one, the Blues scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th, and had the bases loaded with only one out, but could not get any more runs pushed across.

The trip to Moline, Illinois was simply amazing. The girls played well and played their hearts out. This is the highest that a Lady Blues team has ever finished at the ASA 18U Nationals. Congratulations to all the girls, and thanks to everyone back in NC for rooting us on. Between the Blues and the Cobras, our girls proved that NC teams can compete with any team, west, east, north or south. Also, in my humble opinion, the teams from California are more than slightly overrated.

    Thanks again. GO NC!!!!!!
