    Gastonia 9 Wayne County 8

    The host team survives to defeat Area I Champion Wayne County. Wayne heads home after suffering back to back losses. Gastonia had a big fifth inning scoring, I think, 7 runs.

    Heard there was a really good umpiring crew on the 4:30 game today, hope they have a quick one!

    As someone who offciates basketball, I try not to come down on the officials too much. But I will say this: the second game today was some of the worst I've ever seen. They simply blew three calls against us, and the one at the plate was a travesty of justice. Of course, it didn't help that the fattest player on the team had an extra bagel with cream cheese this morning. He should have joined me on the treadmill.

    When I said to several Area IV fans that we had the worst umps in the state, they were very quick to disagree and one or two asked that I watch some of "theirs" in action.
