    Just like the title, just wondering if anyone try's out for more than one team. My daughter is looking at trying out for 3 and then make a decision, is that too many?

    Not too many...

    When you go to buy cleats, do you try only one (1) pair on? Most likely not! I say try out for as many teams as you can and then decide which team fits yours and the DD's needs the best! You never know what might be out there that you wouldn't have known about, if you didn't shop around!

    Thanks for your input. So far my daughter has tried out for two teams, 1st team had 11 girls to show up and they picked three that day. My daughter was one of the three. 2nd team six girls showed up and everyone was picked. Two of the girls really struggled with several things they had to do. I'm not sure if I am over reacting so I need some input on all this.

    (Team 1)
    The first tryout was very organized and everything done in a timely and professional manner. They drilled the girls on ground balls to center of 2nd and 1st and then to short stop. Then gave them all pop flies to the outfield, after that they timed the girls running from home to first then home to 2nd. After that they gave them ten pitches, bunt the first three then swing at the rest. There is another tryout now scheduled for Friday. We will most likely attend this one as well to see who shows up. Eleven girls first round.

    (Team 2)
    The second tryout they watched the girls throw to each other, done ground balls to 2nd, let them swing at 5 pitches then 5 more. After the batting they watched (not timed) each girl run to 1st then 2nd, then let them rce to 1st base in pairs. That's bout it for the tryouts, six girls showed up and they picked all six tonight.

    Now if it was up to me I would go with team one because, one they had more to show up and were not selecting just anyone, and two seemed to have it all together. The coach with tem two said it might take until Feb before enough girls showed up to have a complete team but we could practice until then.

    We still have one more team to tryout for, which is the one we played with for the last three months. My daughter has them all favored at Team 2 first our current team 2nd then team 1.

    I have told her that I will let her play with either team she wants but would like for her to give Team 1 another look and would also like for her to play on a team with a full roster. Am I wrong in keeping her away from Team 2 because they lack the players and organization skills?

    Well...

    In my opinion it is important to let the player have some say so , in what team they play on! The parents role should be to guide the DD to the team that they feel offers the DD most of what will benefit her as she grows and improves her skills! If the DD's only interest is to play ball and have fun, make friends then let her decide what team she wants to try. If you are thinking that you want her to continue on in the process of improving and moving up in skill level then you should help her to decide on the team that will best help her to get to the next level! What age level are we talking here 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U, etc.?
    The age level matters in the process, at particular levels such as: is she moving toward Middle School ball or is she moving toward High School Ball or is she just participating for the love of the gamme, per say! If she is preparing to go into High School for instance then she will need to be on a very structured team with very knowledgable coaching so as to make certain that her skill level is where it should be. Making sure also that the competition she is faced with, is at the proper level of competition she should be playing againest! Also how much travel are you wanting to do? Are you wanting to do mainly local, regional or wide range travel. The area offers every level.
    These are things you must ask yourself in order to know the proper answers to what team best suits your DD. I urge you to listen to and talk to your DD about what team to choose. Trust me you don't want to force something that you will have to force her to continue at! You can talk to her and find out what she wants out of the experience and then try to guide her toward a combination of what she wants and what you think she needs! I hope this helps some! I am definately no expert, but I have been through the experience from start (5 yrs old) to the the college level! There are other members that I am sure could give other advice that I have forgotten or not covered!

    Yes this is a 8U player

    She loves to play the game and also works hard at getting better, I never have to ask her to lets go practice in the yard because she is always asking me to go catch or either do some hitting with her. I have always tried to let her set the schedule with home practice, right now it's been good since I don't want to burn her out at an early age, I am mainly wanting her to have fun with it and at the same time learn the game and gain the skill that will help her later down the line.

    8U
    I am looking to stay within a 1 1/2 to 2 hr window with her right now with tournaments. We currently live in Wilson County.

    Thanks for your advice, just one question with this all being new to us, What does DD stand for?

    The world wont end if you make the 'wrong" decision at 8U... maybe she likes the kids better on her 1st choice. She needs to have fun. Which team is closest? Are they her buddies?

    You are stressing way too much for this age level.

    The Pilots are the closest, about 20min and the other two are about 35 away from home. She actually knows girls on all three teams from playing county ball with them. I agree she does need to have fun but I am thinking with Team 2 there will be more practice than actual playing, and although practice is a very important part of the whole process, actual game play is just if not more crucial.
    Not stressing at all, or at least I don't feel any stress. She stated travel ball at the tail end of the season only has about 2 months of practice with 3 tournaments within that window as well. She has enjoyed it so much that she is not interested in playing county ball at all next spring, (which is a good thing)So I just want her to have fun with it and play all the tournaments she can.

    Thanks for your input.

    LOL ...

    DD stands for Darling Daughter! Not laughing at you just remembering when I was new on here and wanted to know the same thing! A few others FYI:

    HS = High School Ball
    TB = Tournament Ball
    PM = Private message
    IMO = In my opinion
    JMO = Just my opinion
    MHO = My honored opinion

    You will see those a lot! Good Luck with choosing a team and remember, right now, at this age level, it is most important that she is having fun!
    You are doing the right thing with Home Practice time, she shouls intiate it right now for the most part! IMO
    Feel free to PM anytime you need! I absolutely LOVE this game!
