:bigok:I'm glad it worked out well for you. Some people don't understand that a coach puts a time frame on the offer because they can't wait very long to be turned down. They must move on to the next player on their list, so they don't lose out on that one, too. It's a business....and the offer is up for option each year. That's why so many of us preach to select the college you really want to attend in case things don't work out. Coaches come and go...but the University is not going anywhere.

    100....

....was just a number that I threw out to start.
Now to answer your question, are there kids in NC that have the talent to have 100 schools interested in her? Absolutely! But its not feasible for any athlete to even try to entertain such a daunting task.
My point was only to narrow your focus down to 4 or 5 schools by your junior year, and then get serious about your college future.

One thing is for sure, and you can take this to the bank, for every ballplayer in NC in the recruiting arena, there is certainly an equal # of recruitable kids in SC, Fla. Ga. Va. Tenn. etc
....so why would a college coach in say Ala. wait around for miss NC 3b stud if the Ala. coach has a local in state kid who WANTS to go to Ala.?
No need to answer this one folks.
I've said it before and I'll say it again...You've got to show to a coach way more than talent on the field! Academics, How you act off the field!, and other things as well but DON'T underestimate the fact that if you want to play at Univ. X and for coach Z, your desire carries ALOT of weight with U of X and coach Z.

    national ch. goals?

in a lot of mens sports that I follow.............STUD HS athletes many times express that they want to play for a school that has a chance to win a national championship, no matter if it's in this state or not.

don't see this type of goal in female athletes too much, right or wrong?

Nike commercial: "Well I'm the happiest girl in the whole USA".

Might that be more related to exposure at the collegiate level - there is a life in baseball after college, whereas not the case in softball... not yet anyway.

I believe there are exceptions to that statement, case in point is Morgan Childers who went to USC Upstate knowing they could not compete for the big show for the first two years of her college career. she like the coach, the school and has confidence that they will compete for her last two years of college.....hope so, great team.....lot of local carolina girls on it.

I think there may be some misunderstanding about the term ,"bargaining power", let me give you a little example, I know a head coach who was recruiting a pitcher, they both like each other, the coach made a offer, the player accepted the offer, end of story right, wrong, daddy decieded to get involved and get DD some more money, that lasted about fifteen minutes, the coach withdrew the offer and moved on, and never looked back. The only person that has any bargaining power is the player, that is accomplished by being good enough that you are in high demand, I promise you that over the nation there are at least a thousand girls as good as ninety nine percent of the players in a years class, that one percent is the top pitchers of the nation. not just NC.

tiger- you are absolutely correct. But there are very few secrets out there. If multiple schools are recruiting you, the others know what the offers are (please, don't ever inflate what that offer is...they know)...and they may increase what they were originally going to offer. Recruiting can get crazy some times. They all want what the other schools want.

I've seen players that many were not aware of. Soon as State U was interested, so were many others. They felt that "Gee, if they're interested, we should be, too."

Have heard of some coaches recruiting some players, just to keep them from going to opposition. Then girls ride the pine. Know your coaches !!

I don;t know if this is true in softball, as the number games would prevent this, most D1 Universities only have appx ten to fourteen scholly's to give and most only carry fifteen to sixteen on roster, however in the other div. don't know if this holds true or not.
Before the ncaa reduced the # of football scholly's from 105 to 85, then it was true, that a school might sign a player to keep him from there rivals...
