Andy Partin has announced today on www.impactbaseball.com the very exciting news that Levi Michael will be graduating early from high school and will be in a UNC Tarheels uniform this spring. This Dirtbag captain is one of the nicest and finest ballplayers in the state and I personally want to wish him the best of success at the college level.

Well that definitely eases some of the pain of losing so many 08's to MLB.
I'm sure it will spark some debate, but I'd take Michael over Lassiter, given the choice.
Shades of Landon Powell, but without the intrigue of free-agency.

Yeah, but he won't be able to play in the spring, right? I thought one has to be at school both fall and spring to be eligilble to play.

Can someone explain to me the benefits of doing this? I think you are right, he can't play in the spring, unless I'm missing something.

    This is only my opinion

Even if he can't play which I am not sure of the rule BUT for sure he would still be a lot better off practicing with them daily especially if he is their future shortstop. Again only my opinion since I am just a baseball fan.

I realize it's a family decision and I'm not criticizing their decision. I just don't understand it. (other than getting some college courses behind you). Your senior year in high school is one of the best experiences one can have in their life. You only get to do it once. (or in Dback's case, thrice).

Levi appears to be a great guy with a level head. I know he is doing what he wants to do.....I just don't understand why.

    A lot of questions

I can see working with the team. What about his HS team? How will this effect him playing later in college? Will UNC let him play this summer? Just questions :gossip:

I'm almost afraid of saying something because i don't want to come across as negative. I can understand why football players start college in the spring and get a jumpstart in spring workouts...but not in baseball. There are no plays to learn and special techniques involved that is beneficial to an early arrival.

Man, when I look back, I should have done what Dback's did and repeat my senior year...it sure was fun!
