Let's just say that your team is stacked with talent that knows the game..how good of coach do you really have to be to have a winning record ??:trophy:I hear so many times when the coaches get the credit for the teams accomplishments...any takers on this subject ???

You may be correct if you say "winning record"; however a winning record is a long way from winning or being a champion. A stacked team can probably have a winning record with poor coaching I just don't think much further. Some would say the Yankees are stacked, winning record yes, champions no.

You need a good coach! I have seen teams with less talent and a good coach win over teams loaded with talent and a bad coach time and time again. This is true for all sports not just softball. That is why they pay the pro coaches the big bucks, if they didn't need them they would save their money. Yes sometimes the coach does get credit for winning and I think rightfully so, but more often than not they get criticized win or lose. If you sent the team out there without a coach who would the parents cuss?? jmho

I think when it comes to the big leagues the head coach is just a team manager who manages what goes on during practice not really a coach he keeps things organized. After all there is a reason why pro teams pick pitchers that throw 95+MPH BECAUSE THEY ALREADY KNOW HOW.Have you ever see a pro team pull a Joe Blow off the street and make something out of them no because they don't have the time to coach them.We all as coaches would like to have the best players out there but that isn't the case yea you might have 5 or 6 girls more advanced than the others you just have to make your practices fun for all no matter what level or how good or not so good players are.You still have to coach I like having to think about what things to teach or what drills to do I see it as a challenge on my part.

    ANOTHER TAKE

I know of one coach who is still active and while at tournaments goes around trying to get the top players from another team to join his team. This is usually at the 16u-18u level. He did it with us a couple of years ago. Most of his 18u players he "raped" from other teams. He then puts these players that sign at the next level on his web site, taking the credit for the years of training that these players received elsewhere.

I think it's fantastic that these great players went on to the next level.

But is what this coach is doing really good coaching or something else?

Just another take on what goes on around our travel club world.

It would be according to where you play. If you wanted to play WFC for instance you probably could have a winning record. ASA you're going to need a good coach.

    WFC

If you play WFC, make sure you get all his policies down in writing prior to committment as they change to his liking at any time. If you have to cancel for any reason including dead even with 75 days notice, U can not get your money back till after the tourney is played and then only 1/2! We will never ever play WFC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:hammer:
