Now that they have officially split East Burke in half, will you continue to be a crazed Cavalier or are you switching to a Draughn fan?

When the school you went to splits in half, it's a tough decision who to be a fan of. The area I grew up in is still in Freedom Patriot terriroty, but my old house I lived in before I moved from Morganton is in Patton territory now.

Maybe I'll just become a Rowdy Rocket fan since the area I now live in is AC Reynolds.

Cavalier all the way, School I graduated from, although I will always be a Hildebran Royal in my mind, I was a Freshman at Hildebran before they opened EB. Did Salem have a football team then, LOL.

Yes, Salem had a team. But I was a Glen Alpine boy.

Did Draughn take Hildebran and George Hildebran or the Drexel/Valdese areas?

Drexel Valdese area. It is on Lovelady road, between Rutherford College and Valdese.

The folks from Drexel got the shaft when it comes to Draughn High School. First of all they named the school after a Valdese resident. Don't get me wrong Jimmy Draughn was a great man, and a heck of a good principal. Secondly they used the old Valdese High School colors. Them to top it off they named the mascot after the old Morganton High School. I don't know what will happen at East Burke next year when they truely separate the school districts. The folks on the east end of the county need to really start working to build youth athletics in the George Hildebran area. I personally think they'll struggle in the new conference.

Ah Hildebran High. Dad was a member of the state champ b-ball team (don't think he played much) but I keep hearing the stories of the good ole days from back then.

I think the mascots for both of the new schools are pretty lame.... Couldn't they come up with something better than Panthers and Wildcats? Geez... Imagine how Hibriten feels that Patton stole their school colors AND mascot and has to play them in every sport!

Yeah, its hard to imagine their were not more options out their for Mascots and Colors. What about the Texas Longhorn or Miami Hurricane color scheme.. Just two name two very quickly..

Not to mention that Patton nearly got into some serious beef with Penn State over the logo situation. However, their new logo is the same as the Orlando Predators' (Arena Football League) logo, only with fur on the hands.

You may want to remember that when East Burke

was formed, they took the colors of Hilderbran, Drexel, and George Hilderbran (variations of blue, white, and silver). What school colors were left out, Valdese. Besides, Black, Gold, and White looks sharpe. Just ask App.State, Vanderbilt, Notre Dame, Missouri, Wofford, the Steelers!

I can live with the Wildcats. Heritage students, 5th graders from Drexel, Valdese, and Rutherford College voted on that and I don't think they know much about the old Morganton mascot.

This will be a community school and I don't think EB felt like that. My dad always talked about his days at Valdese high School, I don't feel that way as much about EB. JMO
