I will try and address your questions in your order:
    1. You can play volleyball year round if you want to. For the regional teams only (In North Carolina) yes the season ends in mid april usually. For those who play at a higher, national level they play in to June and in some cases July.
    2. Summers here for the highschool girls starts in June sometime with conditioning and weights and some open gyms. In July we have a annual volleyball camp for all ages that the Highschool girls work at with the younger kids and it has been a great success and in my opinion has helped the Highschool program and keeps the younger kids interested in volleyball. Some of our girls attend college camps in our area also. I have one or two I would recommend if you are interested but I will not post here. Don't want to tick off anyone!! :)....Just like any other sport they do need a break sometimes. We played this year all the way into June....so when we finished I didn't let my daughter touch a ball until July. She did workouts with her team but no playing.
    3. I agree with vbdad on this one. Let her play in her own age group and if she is good she will shine and have fun! If she is only a Freshman she will enjoy her own age group more for now and if she developes into a really good player then you may consider moving up in age groups for travel ball. Age DOES make a difference. And to get a perspective of that watch a JV game and then go watch a really good varsity team with some Seniors and Juniors with experience and observe the difference in the speed and skills of the players. In some cases it's really a big difference. So in my opinion let her play with her own age group.
Just a bit of advice...keep an open mind, be positive, don't judge her and let her have fun!!! it breaks my heart to see parents kill a kids desire for something with harsh comments or negative comments. I promise our kids are trying there best and in most cases they want to please there parents!! So we don't need to yell or shout at them....just encourage them and listen!! Some of my best times so far with my kids has been just listening to them talk about games......they just might surprise you!!!

I looked on NCHSAA, couldn't find it.

    Person Rockets/Pac-Six Conference update

The Person Rockets had a repeat match against the Riverside Pirates last night at Rocket Gym. Pirates were the first team to hand the Rockets there first conference loss of the season back on September 2nd. Well last night was some extrodinary Volleyball from both teams!! This was fun to watch!!! The Pirates came in looking to upset the Rockets again and looked if they just might do it by taking the first match 13-25 from the Rockets. The Rockets came out a little flat. But the Rockets found there game in match 2 25-19. Match 3 was a tough hard fought match from both teams with some awesome volleys on both sides. Rockets took that match 28-26. But the Pirates would not go away and took match 4 23-25 and again some awesome volleys and defense on both sides. In the 5th and decisive game the Rockets came out smoking and jumped on the Pirates and won 15-10. Rockets take the match 3-2!!!....13-25,25-19,28-26,23-25,15-10
Rockets move back into a first place tie with East Chapel Hill who was swept by Chapel Hill last night 3-0. The Chapel Hill tigers seem to be getting hot and on a roll!!!....25-17,25-17,25-22
Other action in the Conference, Jordan defeats HIllside 3-0.
    Pac-Six Standings as of 09/26/2008
Person Rockets: 7-2 in Conference 13-3 Overall
East Chapel Hill: 7-2 in Conference 10-6 Overall
Jordan: 6-3 in Conference 12-4 Overall
Chapel Hill: 6-3 in conference 6-9 Overall
Riverside: 5-4 in Conference 9-6 Overall
    Northern: Unknown
    Hillside: Unknown
    Southern: Unknown
Very important game this coming Tuesday night at Rocket Gym between the Rockets and East Chapel Hill. This will probably determine the the Regular Season Pac-Six Champion for the conference.
Rocket JV's are 11-1 Overall and 8-0 in conference play!
    GO ROCKETS!!!!!!!!!!
