    Yep marlinfan1

Yep...Bill Schott whom was going to coach my youngest daughter before he left to go out of state for a relocating job.

He had a way of really understanding and communcating with the younger players.

I am relatively new to softball with three years of high school ball but two coaches stand out to me, Monte Sherrill and Mike Lambros.

I had heard a lot of negative things about Monte before I ever saw him coach and at first I agreed with what I heard but still respected his coaching. Two summers ago my youngest niece played on a 10U team with Monte's daughters, Bailey and Vada. Now I got to know the man, the father, the husband, the coach. The best way for me to put it is that I'm his biggest fan!

Mike Lambrose, I got to know this summer at The State Games in Greensboro. He was everywhere doing everything, from pulling the tarp to cover the field in the rain to retrieving a home run ball for the girl that hit it (the only one at the games). His coaching speaks for itself, his teams can hit, pitch, run, defend and always find a way to win.

I would have still picked these two gentlemen even if I hadn't gotten to know them. But, fortunately for me I have gotten to know them both a little better.

    How 2 WIN ....

I have read every post on this thread while agreeing with a few heavily and disagreeing with the most mildly.... There is over 30 post on this thread naming a lot of coaches that are probably worthy of the praise they are recieving..... So my point is that yes you def. have to have TALENT to WIN, but at the same time a great coach has to put his stamp on that talent whether it be great for that year or moderate..... I feel like the mark of a great coach lies with what type of impact that coach makes on that young person(s) life in that 4 yr. period and for the 40+ yrs. after that. I believe that they are just a small, samall amount of coaches that have that talent, and a even smaller amount of coaches that can take their players and up their skill level say a whole letter grade (say take a B grade type player and turn them into a A grade type player) and the player basically might be playing out of their element so to speak..... That is what makes a GREAT coach when someone can do this year in and year out with whatever type of talent they may be handed, and establishing tradition, history, and a winning program upon those principals with the foundation of hard work, and deciation! So my 2nd point is that a GREAT coach CAN WIN with moderate talent (even the State title). I've seen it done before, and I believe that if you can combine these traits wrote about on this post you have close to the perfect formula for being a GREAT coach.... I have already ealier stated my pick for the best coach in the state, (he def. holds all of these traits) and I feel like the 1 guy that wrote "hands down no explantion needed" feels........... Lastly, everyone has a opinion, but I just wanted to give my take on what it takes to be a Great Coach and to be able to bulid a lasting program!

Shutterbug, If you read on my previous post you will see that you and I have the same exact picks, I was not in anyway trying to bash your opinion or response, that is not why I started the thread or why I write my opinion in these post, sorry for the misunderstanding. Hopefully we are on the same page! Thanks!
