White Bats

    I keep hearing around the ballpark that the white bats will be banned for high school use fed. rules. Have you heard this if so when will the ban begin?

    I haven't heard this, but if it is it's because it didn't pass the BESR test:

    Ball Exit Speed Ratio, or BESR test. This test uses a special machine called the Baum Hitting MachineTM to swing a bat at 68 mph towards a ball which is moving towards the bat at 70 mph. After impact the ball passes through a speed trap and the "ball exit speed" is measured. Current ball exit speed standards for college and high school bats are 97 mph and 94 mph respectively.

    could it be the white ball hitting off of a white bat being a disadvantage to the defense? you know..not seeing the ball hit off the bat?

    p.s. I'm just a stupid girl, so what I do know?

    I wouldn't think so or you could make an argument about white uniforms being used by a pitcher

    I guess I'm just thinking Wayyyyy back to AAU when the little guys couldn't have an actual image of a baseball on their jerseys - which I thought was stupid - but, I remember they couldn't wear a certain jersey cuz it had a great big, white baseball on the front.

    or maybe my memory is foggy because of too much of this....:th_90edab00:

    White bat, black bat, brown bat or even a purple with yellow poka dots bat. I do not see the reason.

    just to give you the softball side, in NSA,ASA and USSSA tournaments, the directors are required to replace the yellow ball, when asked by the opposing team, when a defensive team is wearing bright yellow uniforms or uniforms that effectively hide the ball by matching the color. the color of the replacement ball is, yes of course, pink..........go figure.

    I would think

    they are talking about the Nike bat that is all white. I wondered when I first saw it if it would be hard to pick up the baseball coming off of a white bat. Maybe some of you players can tell us if it indeed is harder to pick up the baseball coming off this bat. If it is they need to ban it and all white bats.

    Coach 27 that's what I was told too about the white Stealth. The manager at Dick's Sporting Goods said that Easton recalled them from Dick's and is not selling them anymore because of injuries due to the pitcher not being able to see the ball off the bat as well. However, I don't know if others are selling them though.
