Hey everybody, for the regulars on the board I apologize for being absent for so long and then coming on here with a plug. And for those who do not know who I am, my name is Robert Woodard. I am a former baseball player at UNC and am currently back in Chapel Hill completing my undergraduate degree at UNC (finally).

I am posting here in case any of you have kids or know of kids in the raleigh/durham/chapel hill area (possibly Charlotte on weekends) that would like to take pitching lessons with me over the course of the fall and winter. I have worked with pitching coaches Roger Williams, Scott Forbes, Tom House and given lessons to kids ranging from 5-18 in Charlotte, Chapel Hill, Fort Wayne (Indiana) and San Diego, California.

Aside from being a player, I aspire to coach in either the college or professional ranks and would really like to relay some of the information and things that I have learned through the years as a player to others in the area.

I am open to working with either groups or individuals. Please do not hesitate to contact me through a PM if you are, or know of anyone who would be interested in working with me.

    Thanks guys,

    Woody

If I was in HS or younger, I would jump at this opportunity. He is one of the best people I have ever met and one of the best baseball minds to ever play that I knew. He knows the in's and out's of pitching and will teach your son what he needs to knows.

Heck i'm done playing and I might get some lessons, just to learn more things about pitching.

I would HIGHLY recommend Woodard while playing with him and knowing him. He is a great individual from a good family and he has more baseball knowledge than you could imagine.

    Thanks Lefty

I really appreciate the kind words. I have been very fortunate to have played under and work with some very knowledgable people in this game. I really love working with kids and being a part of their development as a player.

Ill add that my hours in the evenings are pretty flexible, and if there was a group or team that wanted me to work with them one evening or on a week by week basis, I would definitely be up for it. Even if it meant making a trip to Charlotte or a part of the state outside of Chapel Hill.

    Thanks guys.

Wow!!! Of course, I heard that Woody was looking to give back to the players in North Carolina and what great timing for this to happen.

Robert Woodard is the most focused, dedicated and professional baseball player I have ever met. I still use my memories of him to illustrate how a ballplayer should act.

But what seperates Robert from others is his ability to relate what he is talking about. Some coaches "talk down" to players or speak over their heads. Robert, perceptively, can tell if a player understood and will review the subject until it sinks in. He is patient, clear in his instructions and actually enjoys working with kids. I'm going to take him up on his offer working with my young son. But don't misunderstand me, getting pitching lessons from Woody will benefit all players at any age.

Woody- We need to work out a special weekend when you could hold a clinic in Charlotte and we can post the details here.

    Thanks Braves!

    Hey Braves,

Hope you and the fam are doing well. I appreciate the "Sticky" as well the support. I would love to put together a clinic or clinics for the fall and winter. We should definitely talk about that some more.

Thanks again for the support with this, please don't hesitate to contact me.
    Take care.

Woodie is one of my favorites!

Games "on the Hill" aren't the same with his Dad not being there! Tell him we miss him.

I have to tell ya'll a story from my son's recruiting process... His school summer team was playing over at NCSU and after the game his HS coach asked one of the asst State coaches what he thought about my son. The coach said they would love to have him as a walk on but they didn't give scholly money to RHP's that didn't throw over 90. I wish I had been there when he said that because I would have pointed out to him that Robert Woodard had kicked their asses and exactly how hard did he throw that day?

Woodie is a pitcher... that's the best compliment I can give him.

    Keep the PM's coming...

Thanks for the kind words and messages in attempt to setting up some lessons. I am really looking forward to working with some good young arms this fall and winter. Please continue to contact me if you would like to set something up.

It's not everyday a kid has a chance to be taught by a player that led his team to 2 consecutive years in the Championship Game at the College World Series. And the fact that Robert holds the record for the most wins at UNC certainly attests to his understanding of how to be a pitcher.

I suspected that Robert would get inundated with PM's. I urge everyone that has interest to help your son become a better pitcher to reach Robert quickly. His time is somewhat limited and I don't want anyone to be left out. I urge all teams, in particular, to contact him immedately so he can fit you into his hectic schedule. He is setting up appointments with different area hosts as we speak. It may be awhile before Robert will be able to do this again. So, for those that have been thinking about contacting Robert, please do so now before it's too late

What advice can you give high school pitchers about feeling pressure & dealing with pressure on the mound? I have observed some thrive in that environment and have seen many succumb to it. What techniques or thoughts do you have that helped you when the pressure was building. Specifically, how would you deal with pressure before a big game leading up to the first few pitches and secondly, how would you deal with pressure during an opponents rally or that situation when strikes were hard to come by and the pressure to find the plate while still throwing quality pitches was building?

Thanks in advance for your reply!
